I am going to do an audit of the original list vs. all those that actually ordered boards later today and post the results so check back. There are some that ordered that were not on the original WIKI list......

Thank Guys
I sent the payment to Mark (finally, what a complicated operation from this remote place of the world), so the counter should pop up a little bit.
I would like to thank all the members for the help I received, specially Terry and Dennis for their e.mail.

paid up
I'm jumping in... paid up for 2 main & 2 PSU.
Is the wiki right that they likelihood of someone putting together a parts kit is low?

4OHM load considerations?
There was a mention somewhere about special considerations should be taken for the PSU for a 4Ohm load... Can someone elaborate or make recommendations, my speakers are 4Ohm nominal.

Hi Guys,
I'm really glad to see this all coming together. Looking forward to getting my new boards.
I just wanted to report how my amp with the original boards is coming along. I am listening to it right now as I type. It is playing through a pair of JBL 4425's and sounds really good. I' running the bias at 250mV across the .69ohm emitter resistors. I tried 300mV but it was so hot it scared me. Even at 250mV I can't keep my hand on the heatsink.
Someone asked earlier about how this amp compares the ESP P101 that I built and I have been trying ot compare them today. It is a tough comparison because the P101 is 200WPC so it has a bit more volume than the Krell. I think they are very comparable, at least on my JBL's. I think the Krell may have a bit more bass punch but it's hard to tell because I have to change gain settings on the preamp to get them at the same listening level.
If I were recommending one or the other as a first amp to build, I would go with the P101. I think it was easier to build and you don't have all that heat to deal with. I am very glad to have built this KSA however and I know I will be enjoying music from it for a long time to come. I twill be a really nice addition in the wintertime. 😀
Blessings, Terry

Re: paid up
Well I offered to do one and it may still happen, but Mark said he would discuss the possibility of his local supply shop "stocking" a parts kit for them.
I am waiting for Mark to confirm or dismiss the local shop selling the kits before I continue with a kit discussion.

Great stuff Mark.
Watchout though, the IRS will be investigating why you recieved $3000 in your paypal account over a couple of weeks 😀
Almost forgot,
Can somebody please advise on the feasibility of converting the unbalanced input section of the boards into full balanced operation?
I really don't know where to start but would love to use the balanced outs from my DAC.
Would someone be able to post a schematic?
I'm sure I'm not the only one interested in this.
Thanks
Ant

Really? That does surprise me.
I thought the Krell would have had a clear sonic advantage. I guess the answer I was hoping for was a clearly a better amp.
I have a few of the P101's here and assembled to compare when the KC's arrive. Finger crossed I notice and improvement but TBH the P101's are very impressive for such an easy to build design, I've also used blackgate electrolytics, matched Fet's, caps and resistors and other such niceties on them so perhaps these P101's may even beat them should I use more standard parts?
Any thoughts?

The X-BOSOZ Parts GB I am running has collected $4400 US so far, and I am still in the hole a few hundred. I should recoup that though later. I have planned my Parts GB to the last detail, so who ever picks up this gauntlet would be well advised to very thorough.

Well, Like I said, I'm listening through my JBL's. I have a pair of 4425's and a pair of 4411's. Not exactly audiophile speakers but a lot of kick.
It is really hard for me to compare a 50wpc amp to a 200wpc amp. The higher power always sounds bigger to my ears. I could easily listen to either of these amps for hours without getting tired. They both sound wonderful to me.
Oh wait one minute here. I've been listening to this amp all afternoon and into this evening. I got to wondering while I was typing this how the Krell would sound through my Event 20/20 nearfields, they are 4 ohm.
Wow, I think I just found its home. Just wonderful! Just enough kick to make the 8" woofers punch a bit and the highs and mids are sooooo smoooth. Yup, it's staying right there for a while. Can't wait to do a little mixing on this. Very easy on the ears. I don't hear anything nasty at all.😎
The P101 can stay running the JBL's.
Blessings, Terry

Will either potential kit include matched components?
Is there enough interest to include the PSU components?
Either way it goes... thanks to everyone for putting this project together!

Please check- I have done a money transfer to you. Remember I am in South Africa and not South West Africa.

Terry,
What are your thoughts when both amps are run to 40-50 watts?
Can somebody please advise on the feasibility of converting the unbalanced input section of the boards into full balanced operation?

Please, anyone got an answer to this question?

Well I don't have any way of knowing when I'm running at 50 watts. I have no idea how much either of these amps are actually putting out. The way I've been comparing them is not very scientific. I have the Krell hooked up through one set of speakers and the P101 through the other. I have a "Y" cord between the amps and a Yamaha preamp. I simply unplug one and plug in the other. I have another pair of 4411's. I should probably bring those in for a more even comparison. The 4425's have quite a bit more low-end than the 4411's and the 4411's go higher than the 4425's, so even though I've swapped speakers back and forth, it is still hard to tell. The P101 is noticeably louder than the Krell so I have to adjust the volume each time to get a good feel. Like I said, they both sound great to me. I have been listening to mostly jazz through them for these tests and they both have great imagery. The Krell plays plenty loud, it's just that for the same preamp setting, the P101 is louder.
I don't have two preamps alike so that is why I used a "Y" cord to try and take that out of the mix.
Keep in mind that I also used a single 30-0-30 Transformer and only three pair of 15mF 80v filter caps and now that I think about it, I also pulled the speaker output straight off of the emitter resistors, not using any of the components listed as optional. I left off all of the RVI parts and output protection circuits. I don't know how much of an effect these have on the final outcome, but I am not at all dissatisfied with the sound of this amp. I can't help it if the P101 sound great to me as well.
Blessings, Terry

Does your DAC have discrete outputs ?

No worries Terry,
The P101 is a very good amp and doesn't nearly recieve the praise it deserves IMO.
I'll try to get some thoughts up on here when I've finished construction and compared the two. I'm guessing the Krell will be slightly better but fingers crossed that its even more so.
