Was the Jeff Korneff 45 Amp schematic ever published online? Can anyone provide a link? As I understand it was based on the "Single Ended Glory" published in Glass Audio in the 1990's.
I want to try a 45 SET amp in my main listening room. They will drive my 104 dB horn speakers. I'd prefer to avoid kits, and rather source the parts myself, so I'm just looking for the schematic. I'm open to alternate suggestions, so please let me know if you think there's a 45-based circuit that out-performs the Korneff.
Thanks!

I just finish that project using ISO (Tango) FC12s OPT and custom wound Power Transformer & Choke.

I don't want to rain on your parade, but you are going to spend BIG $ on a #45 project. What, if anything, do you currently use to drive the 104 dB. sensitive horns? You can get some pretty darned good sound out of triode wired 6V6s, that cost less than #45s. Also, the 6V6 requires less drive voltage.
Yes, I am a "cheapskate". 😀 No, I'm not parsimonious.
Thanks for the link, Norelco. I may consider this one. Can you tell me about those horns?
The Korneff is appealing to me because it uses a 6SN7 which will allow me to use my stash of 7193 tubes.
Eli, I already have a handful of 45 tubes and do not plan on spending big money on globe 45's. A 6V6 amp if definitely on my list of future projects. It's my preferred guitar amp tube, and I collected a bunch of them while building various Fender tweed-type circuits. I may end up going with 6V6's to drive my Klipsch Forte II's in a different room. The 45 amp will drive a pair of horn speakers based on Altec 288's and large mantaray horns (I forget which model). They're currently being driven by a Parasound amp that provides far more power than needed.

Well ... to chime in, I have 104dB K-horns myself and have yet to hear an amp that can top my TSE running CX-345's. The TSE is a great build but wait for the new version that is due out soon as the existing heater regulator is unobtanium. Prior to the TSE my next favorite amp was an RH84SE running SE EL84's. I built it with 100% film caps (even the PS) and a 274B rectifier. Another VERY good sounding amplifier!
Attached is's Jeff's "Old Glory" schematic that he sent me back when I was looking to get into 45's.
Good luck on your journey and stick with 45's ... don't listen to these guys! 😀

Those are Onken 360L with Altec 416 8B, Sato Horn with JBL 2482 and JBL 2405 for HF - Passive Crossover - 2nd Order Butterworth - 300hz ~ 7khz

Hey JJ, I'm in NJ also, maybe I could bring over my 45 amp depending where you are in NJ, send a PM.
Craigtone, thanks for that! That's a much better resolution file than I've been able to find. Did you ever build it? If so, what about the TSE do you prefer over the "Glory" when paired with your K-Horns?

I never built it. The TSE makes sense on many levels so I don't think Glory would be able to top it. The TSE basically drives the 45 with very high impedance which no typical driver tube can do without trade-offs. THis is why some of the best sounding DHT SE amps use interstage transformers. The caveat there is you spend as much on that transformer as the rest of the amp BOM and if you don't ... well then you might have well just cap coupled it. 🙂

Hi Eli,
Is it possible if you can share a good schematic for 6v6 single ended amplifier? I may have read a thread where you started a project using the 6v6 for single ended duty. Im very interested on building one as I have quite a few 6v6 laying around and a few 5k se opts from a sony rtr (tamura)...
Thanks

Norelco,
That is a beautiful build. Great Job... and the horns are impressive.
I have built the korneff 45 which is based on the single ended glory circuit and the bugle 45.
Both amplifier sounds nice but the bugle is more dynamic. The korneff will benefit more with a preamp.
Thanks
Hi,
Good to hear it from you Sir.. [emoji4] my SET addiction starts when i have that horn speaker set up..

Upper Left to Right
12Y7/ 45, 6sl7/ 2a3
Lower Left to Right
6sl7/1626, 6sn7/300B
Current project
6SN7/VT25 (based on Sun Audio VT25), OPT - Tango Hirata FW20 14S (14K Primary)

Let's not "threadjack". You have a PM. If appropriate, an new thread can be started.
Would it be threadjacking if I asked questions about the TSE 45 schematic in post 4?
Are am I threadjacking by asking this question?
Kind of new to all this and just want to get along!!!
Thanks

The TSE basically drives the 45 with very high impedance which no typical driver tube can do without trade-offs.
Technically the TSE drives the 45 grid with a low impedance source. It can provide grid current to avoid clipping or blocking distortion if the amp is driven near clipping.
if I asked questions about the TSE 45 schematic in post 4?
That's not a TSE, it is the Bugle which was fairly popular in the days before the TSE existed.
The TSE is here:

The TSE is a great build but wait for the new version that is due out soon as the existing heater regulator is unobtanium.
There is a new version coming. It uses a different filament regulator chip, the board has been stretched to better accommodate big tubes like 300B's and fat "2A3's" and uncrowd the area around the heat sinks. Various small changes that have been requested by builders over the last 14 years have been incorporated. The first prototype of the new design is being thoroughly tested now, and I would guess that the first batch of new production boards will be ready in 4 to 6 weeks.
Here is a picture of the prototype and the build thread. The proto is just that, a DIY proto board for verification before I drop a kilobuck on boards from a quality PC board vendor in the USA. The proto does have some quality issues. I made it in my basement, and hand drilled the holes with a Dremel tool. The version offered for sale will be a professionally built board like the SSE and SPP.
After a 14 year run, the TSE must DIE!
