Hi all, new here, ive managed to get a kicker zx1000.1 amp on the cheap as the gain toggle has broken, ive found a replacement part but they come in two values, just wondering if anyone knows the right one for this amp? The values they come in are 10k ohm or 50k ohm..
Thanks.
Thanks.
Post pictures of the amp with and w/o a cover and one of just the Preamp board with the gain pots.
Which Gain pot is broken? VR300(Gain),VR301(Bass),VR302(Dual Gain Freq).
Based on the 2006 model The Pots or VR's are all 20Kohm. The Bass Pot/VR may have changed to 50kohm in later model. You may see the pots ohm value etched into the case(B50K) or printed on the under side(B 20 3)

Hiya, ive just had the amp apart again and found that the pots im after are b20k ones. Its the gain one thats gone faulty. Ive been looking everywhere on the net for a replacement but can't find them anywhere. Any suggestions where to look. Thanks. 🙂
Someone here may have a pulled six pin B20K from a trash board or you might be able to find another amp on eBay selling for parts only. Any of the KX or ZX amp will have this VR
Are the contacts simply loose or are there pieces in the pot that are broken?
If the circuit is like I've seen in some of the Kicker diagrams, you may be able to use a different value. It would change the overall gain range but you may be able to recover the original range by changing the value of one other resistor.

The pot itself inside is broken, I've also searched high and low on the internet for replacement ones but can't find any anywhere.
Yes, ive found a 50k version of the pot but as im not that clued up with these amps i was trying to get the correct one for it. Would the 50k one work with it then? Thankyou.
Ideally, you'd like to get the right pot but that's not always possible if the manufacturer won't sell you the parts.
If this is your amp, having a gain range that's not the same as it was originally may not be an issue.
At this point, what are the options? Try a different value? Install fixed resistors in the place of the pot? Install a different style pot that requires removing the cover so you can make adjustments?

What sort of difference would a different ohm pot make? Ive just found the 10k version of the pot too. Suppose that would be better than a 50k.
The range of gain would change. I think the 10k would likely be better.
Are they using only 3 terminals of the pot? Check top and bottom of the board.

All i know is the pots have 6 legs. I haven't taken them out of the amp yet as its in the car. Once i know i can get some ill take the small board out and de soldier broken one and soldier in new ones. Sorry if i sound stupid lol, ive not had to repair one of these before. 🙂
I will follow up with the resistor and value you will need to change. I agree with Perry, the 10k would work best.
You guys are amazing!!! Thankyou soo much. So helpful. Better than british customer service 100%!
The VR300 uses one side of the VR. The VR300 is across U300-Pins 13 & 14.
VR300-20k ohm and R316-475 ohm set the gain at ~43. If you drop in the 10k ohm VR and change R316 to a 240 ohm (1206 smd) you will maintain the gain at ~43.
Let us know what you find.

Just got home to have a mess with the amp and seems if i push on the gain pot and turn it the gain goes up and down, so of i set the gain to minimum while pressing the gain stays there untill i let go of it and then gain goes to maximum. Could this just be a dry joint or the internal part of the pot faulty? Ive see somewhere that the pots can be taken apart and cleaned? Is this a option? Thx.
Also, ive seen some screws holding the pre amp board in place, could i unscrew these and remove the board to work on. Sorry for all the questions lol. Think im getting somewhere with this now.
