First, I recommend opening the amplifier to see if you notice any fried components. When resistors blow, they can leave a black mark. The good news here is that the problem might be rather simple given that it is going into protect mode.
The repair might be more costly than a new amplifier though if you have lost some output transistors.

There are 8 large transistors clamped to the heatsink on this amp. Measure the resistance between the 3 legs of each of the individual transistors. Do you read anything near 0 ohms between the legs of any of the transistors? Try all probe/transistor leg combinations for each transistor.
