KENWOOD KAC 7252 CAR AMP

Hello Everyone,

My Car amp on powering on the red light glows for a sec or two and then goes into protect, can some one be kind enough to guide me throught the repair of this amp.

First, I recommend opening the amplifier to see if you notice any fried components. When resistors blow, they can leave a black mark. The good news here is that the problem might be rather simple given that it is going into protect mode.

The repair might be more costly than a new amplifier though if you have lost some output transistors.

You might want to wait to see if Perry replies. He's far more knowledgeable when it comes to car amplifiers than I am.

There are 8 large transistors clamped to the heatsink on this amp. Measure the resistance between the 3 legs of each of the individual transistors. Do you read anything near 0 ohms between the legs of any of the transistors? Try all probe/transistor leg combinations for each transistor.

Thanks for the reply, I checked the resistance between the legs of all the output transistors there is some kind of resisstance between the legs. I have managed to download the schematic of this model.

Please advice what should i be doing next.

You need to be more specific. 'Some kind of resistance' isn't helpful.

Hi Perry, the resistance is above 1.5 -1.75 in between(between any two legs)

It's unlikely that you have a meter that can read down to 0.00 ohms. It's more likely that you have an non-autoranging meter and had it set to a high range. If so, set it to the lowest range and re-check them.

Manged to fix it, it had few leaky diodes, dry joints and a bad collector transistor.
