Just found this during a surf-session,

You can get one for 500 euro, maybe it sounds great but it looks like a ripp-off.
The wood is the same they use for violins. Who needs aluminium 😉

is this?
it is scary to see people make websites and make it a trap for 'nice' customers.
ik kan niet geloven wat een gezever dat daar op die website te vinden is!

I was shopping for speaker back in the early 70's in Denver Colorado. The sales man told be the BYOB is lose on the world.
I remember year ago another crazy person claiming the block of wood sitting around one's room would improve the sound of your systems, ha-ha. I believe the name was "sun moon"or e something like that .
I was shopping for speaker back in the early 70's in Denver Colorado. The sales man told be the had the perfect speakers for Denver, they were high altitude speakers. Then they was the guy trying to sell me the Bose 901, telling me that horn speakers were no good, he then went and make a funnel around his mouth and start singing, well he said that’s how horn speakers sound. I left there ASAP.
BS and stereo just go together.

you'd be surprised as to how many things go well with bs 🙂
but, i gotta say, that amp looks kinda neat .. (reminder, LOOKS neat)
readint their website on the other hand ....
the amp could sound pretty good. It's probably based on some analog (i.e. not switched-mode) 12V Bridged car audio IC, I would guess TDA7350 / TDA7370.
500Euros without power supply is a bit steep but not a total rip-off; most commercial for-profit stuff looks expensive to us DIYers.
(for rip-off see $8000 cable here: http://www.enjoythemusic.com/magazine/equipment/0104/stereovox.htm )

When I've build my first non oversampling DAC, I tried many different materials to use as a base to support the PCB. It appeared that a piece of plywood sounded the best and this is how I still keep this DAC: no chassis, no cover, just a piece of plywood.😉
the wood conspiracy
mostl likely Weyerhauser is behind this idea, must be coming from some commercial source!
Cheers, en liefst ne Geuze!

It's nice being on the cutting edge...
And here I thought I was just cheap and lazy 🙄

An externally hosted image should be here but it was not working when we last tested it.
looks like
a us$ 500 amp to me, one channel that is.
But next time, use some EPA certified oak, it has a better dampening factor according to specialist!

r0cket,
I see you have, with great care and consideration, positioned the PCB asymmetrically on the wooden board to minimise the effects of standing waves 😀

Is he Actually Selling Any Of These ?..........
A lot of what Altmann is saying here is correct in my experience, but a little off the mark in some aspects.
IMO, 500 Euro for his module is crazy however.
Eric.

I reckon there might be a lot of truth in this guys ideas. I don't understand why people are so ready to rubbish it all. I'm intrigued by the 'chassis' idea. Recently I put the cover back on my amp, it had been off for ages, and quite distinctly, the sound worsened - obviously this is partly due to the settling down and warm up, but its not been quite the same since...(seemed freer and more natural w/o undamped metal lid) No chassis must be a good chassis, and wood, well it must be better than metal, it makes good sense to me 🙂
