HiSpeaking of enclosures....I am leaning towards the 38" MLTL...but also found Pete's MLTQWP design interesting: JX92S MLTQWP speaker
It was designed for the JX..but seeing that the dims are the same for the MLTL, I assume it to be interchangeable ?
I have a new mltl on the way designed using Martin Kings mathcad worksheet. I'll be starting a new thread in the new year entitled Eikona 2 in High Definition Loudspeaker.
I've still some work to do but I will build a new pair and publish pictures giving support to other builders.
Of special interest is the heavily reinforced concrete front baffle. It's 200 mm long x 165 mm wide x 28mm thickness. It provides a stable non resonant platform for the driver. Listening with this baffle is like switching from sd to hd on your TV. Everything comes sharply into focus but their main attribute is they create a sense of presence to the music that wooden fronted loudspeakers can not approach.
For more info on how the baffle developed type in matteisloudspeakers in Google and read the story. I am making a few pairs of baffles available to members of this group buy at a special price to generate interest. Contact me through the email address on the site if you are interested. It'll be first come first served.

Steve - thanks for the update. Glad they arrived safely. A pair arrived in Vietnam at the same time, which seems impressive from a UK perspective.
Jon - thanks for the details. Hope yours arrive OK. Look forward to reading more about the concrete baffle MLTL.

my drivers arrived today - thanks !
Good news - thanks for letting me know. All the USA and UK drivers have arrived, just Gints to hear from now.
I received my drivers, and I wanted to say how impressed I am with the build quality. I own many drivers from EJ Jordan as well as other high-end and boutique designers. These are absolutely top notch -- superlative.
Thanks for this group-buy opportunity!

Received my driver today and I hope to get it working this weekend.
I also would like to thank you for this opportunity!

What designs is everyone shooting for ? I'll start a thread for my MLTL build...but if others are going to get in on the action quickly - maybe we just make a combined thread ?
Thanks,
Steve

Fantastic. Glad you're pleased with them.
Ted has been very impressed with the quality and support from Scanspeak in making the Eikona 2.
Hi,
I am working on the MLTL 38 enclosure (http://www.ejjordan.co.uk/PDFs/Eikona_2_38_MLTL.pdf ) . Just about to drill the port cut. According to the instructions the center of the cut should be 5.5cm from the bottom. Based on the proportion of the plan it looks more like 10-11 cm. Any opinion about what is the correct size?
Many thnaks,
dan

Dan,
I am also doing the same. I cut the port to the measurements provided......And was VERY close to the edge of the baffle. I will not test fit the port until the bottom is glued on to prevent breaking it:

Apologies to both - port should have been centred 15cm from the bottom, not 5.5 cm. The mistake was mine on the drawing and not on Mark Dikovics's original calculations.
Steve - The effect of having so close to the bottom will have very marginal difference on the sound.
There is now a revised PDF on the website which includes the option for an extended base to aid stability and bracing for the cabinet, if required.

Colin,
Thanks for your email. As stated - no worries - I will cut new baffles as I prefer to have more meat under it...which will also allow for an additional biscuit.
Thanks,
Steve

Colin's right. I queered this but port placement makes little difference according to Martins worksheet simulation. I left mine 5.5cm from the bottom but the port I have does not require such a large cutout.
My own mltl's have the same width and depth but I have reduced the height by 150 mm so that the driver is now 100mm from the top and lengthened the port to 165 mm. After lengthy listening tests and adjustments I arrived at 6oz polyester wadding in the top 400mm and baffle step compensation of 4db using a network of 3R3//0.9mh for 200 mm wide baffle. If anyone wants to see the worksheet, I can send
you a pdf but the graph is virtually the same, I lost about 2Hz. Drop me an email to j.espley@talktalk.net
I now have a few pairs of reinforced concrete baffles made 165 mm wide so will fit into this design. The baffles now have no recess and can easily be implemented to take performance of this wonderful drive unit to a new level. They are now available on a commercial basis but to members of this group buy I am making an introductory half price offer of £50 plus postage.
Wood is a vastly inferior material and this is a unique opportunity to build something better. Think about it guys.
