Scott, what kind of evidence will satisfy you?

I'm easier than some any test where both sides are satisfied that there is no bias and either outcome is possible. In the case of speaker cables the frequency response anomolies have to be eliminated, this is probably impossible to both parties satisfaction.

In some ways you're just being a gadfly, this has been discussed before. I have dead friends that tried homeopathy as cancer treatment, you have no sympathetic ear there.

That is shocking. At least, if they did so in place of trying proven therapies. These stories make me wince.

This is why the scientific method is so valuable. It is about separating wishful thinking from dependable knowledge. It is about removing bias from our judgements.

What we need to learn is how to reliably validate peoples' claims and to remain sceptical until we have done so. We don't need to learn how to get excited about attractive, new ideas and then find ways to defend them until such time as they have been objectively invalidated (this we already know how to do!).

Hi John,
I'm willing to try them out. If they improve anything, I'll post same. If they don't, I will refrain from posting anything on the subject anywhere. My standard test agreement.

I have tested many things over the years. I've confirmed some improvements in performance, and not been able to find improvement in other cases. My wife is rather better at noticing things from what I have seen. She used to work at Sonic Frontiers BTW.

Hi Joshua,
Your view is very reasonable. I think that most people here would support your criteria. The best way to determine any improvement is to make the changes and avoid a group setting and any discussion until you have made up your mind. That way you can't be swayed by other opinions, for or against. After that, go ahead and have a group listen if that is your style.

I have dead friends and family members that used the best medical treatment available as cancer treatment. Does that invalidate medicine?

That was in reference to this:

Jaques Benveniste

"Subsequent investigations have not supported Benveniste's findings. His reputation was damaged, but he refused to retract his controversial article. He began to fund his research himself as his external sources of funding were withdrawn. In 1997, he founded the company DigiBio to "develop and commercialise applications of Digital Biology."

You are welcome to this kind of science.

I do not endorse this kind of science. I was simply pointing out (as you are so found of doing) that you had made a statement that was completely unsupported by the anecdotal evidence you provided. What evidence do you have that these people died as a result of the treatment chosen?

Before you accuse me of being insensitive to your losses, I will say that when I was diagnosed with cancer the first time, I chose medical treatment at one of the best cancer centers in the country. I would never have considered anything else. If the growth the doctors are monitoring now turns out o be cancer again, I will choose medical treatment again. It has failed for many people I have known, but that is the nature of the disease.

Time to lighten up: The squeaky Krill gets the oil.

Then again, speaking as one who's gone to the quacks :
If you're as burned fingers prone as me, myself and Yikes, then there's no faster remedy than Viking expensive Dr Eddy Bach's Rescue Cream.

Also recommended by one of the best pocketfilling MD's i know, even in bed she has the nerve to charge me a $120 consultation fee.
(a slice of French baguette, generously topped by Krill Oil, and just a few minutes under the Salamander grill might make a very scrumbtious amuse appetizer)
