Better to use a transformer.
Do you subscribe to the belief
(from I think 'KBK' above)
That the physical mass of the xfmr
affects the sound?
I.E. (IIRC)
Using a say 5K to 8 Ohm tube output xfmr
backwards ( driver is pickup and ' primary'
plugs into line in ) ......
This sounds right intuitively, but I can't see
a glimmer theoretical backup.
Large (or is it Heavy) ~ dark and noisy ?

Transformers should be left to expert designers. Others should study and measure first before attempting to 'design' them.

Mosfets are very noisy. Ask Willy Sansen, if you don't believe me.

Damien, I can't reply for some reason to your offer, but YES is my answer.

Looking in my files I found a 30 year old IC design from Harris associates to be darn interesting. It is a little complex, but it could be simplified for analysis, and even construction of its basic topology. It is called the HA 5110. It was made in 1978 or even earlier.

Hi John, I am sorry but I have not had time now to make simulations. I am just finishing 2 audio projects. The preamp is already under listening test, I have to thank you for the idea of complementary-differential, that we had been simulating here. Together with my low output impedance discrete buffer it sounds fantastic. Opamp lovers should compare .... 😉
