Off topic but how is everyone treating the coronavirus threat there? Virology is one of my weird hobbies and it seems like Thailand should have many, many more cases than they are reporting.

I think this will be a very bad virus, at least economically. Seems to be far more contagious than SARS or MERS. It's not overly fatal but it's a slow-progressing virus and a significant percentage of patients will require ICU care. Significantly worse than Influenza A and the cat is out of the bag.

Well, not that many people want to go to VN. other than the southern region, it isnt well developed. Even the southern area is not ready for prime time. Our taxi driver said he wished the Americans would have won the war there. Thinks VN would be a lot better off. As for the virus, because few were there and it was Chinese new year, we had the area pretty much to our selves. Taxi driver also said if he sees Chinese, he drive right past them.

So, I wasnt too concerned there. Just wear mask around others. Wash your hands often. It does seem like a bad one and old geezers would not fare well... probably die. Not many cases in Thailand also. But visitors are way down here also. No one is travelling much in the whole region. Empty hotels every where.

I was in Chang Mai just before the start of the Chinese exodus, end of last month, and the market square was allready filled with Chinese tourists. Decided on the spot to return to Europe. Stats are completely incredible, with only 34 cases reported (NYT). Or, and this could bide us time, the virus can only succesfully survive and find new victims in the damp and dark conditions of winter.

yes, its right near the border. The capital of the north. Did you go to the night time bazaar? Lot of tribal people from surrounding hills near Myanmar border sell their hand made goods there.

The virus will probably spread less well in hot and humid conditions. Hopefully that will help curb the spread, but I'm not sure it'll be enough to snuff it out like SARS. It's not as contagious as measles, but it's doing a pretty damn good job.

At least on the good news front, the experimental drug Remdesivir appears to be highly effective, and even Choloroquine shows activity against it in vitro. I read the NEJM paper on the first US case, and he rapidly improved after being given Remdesivir. The worrying part about that case is that he was only 35 years old and was in bad enough shape that they decided to use the FDA Expanded Access (compassionate use) program to give him Remdesivir which is not regulatory approved anywhere in the world.

OK, so that (in bold) is your motto. I wonder why you try to engage in discussions on audio forums. :scratch2:

You really ought to get a razzie for most attempts to fail to get a rise from someone.

Tread the top left hand corner of any page 'projects by fanatics for fanatics' Nothing about audio in that mission statement. Also note the DIY part of the URL. If I DIY'er wants to build a low PPM amplifier for giggles why not. No audibility is required.

It was the shortest touristic visit ever. Arrived at 22:00 hours, slept, had a coffee near the old wall, all tourists, many Chinese, many more on their way, flew back to BKK the next day at 14:00. Plse take care!

Are you in Bangkok Now?

My phone number is ?????????????? (removed by Moderation) from within Bangkok. We are watching 3D movies now. Come for dinner.

If I leave country within 90 days, the visa resets for another 90 days upon reentering. This goes on for ever. Or, if I havent gone anywhere, fill out a location update form and pay a modest fee. Can stay here forever or longer. Come and go as I please. I got a retirement visa. For now I am hunkered down in doors for the duration. Got in and out of VNam just in time.

Try..., yeah, that's the keyword. Nobody can stop you from trying.

Of course for the infallible it is easy, for me it is trying to avoid, means to start to get better at it over the time.

Give it a try ( 😉 ) , the reason why you're still so good at fooling yourself is that you not even try to avoid it. See your example below.

As you've noticed..., yeah, that's the crux of the matter, isn't it. It's also known as your opinion.

Simply no, that you denote facts as opinion (and vice versa btw) is a fact.
It is my opinion to think the reason is a lack of knowledge/understanding, but of course it could be also a hidden agenda so willfull wrong denotion.

It's been pointed out more than once that your listening method lacks the objectivity and thus what you've got out of it is just an anecdote, not a proof. But you put your head in the sand and continue on spreading the "gospel" with your anecdote. <snip>[/SIZE]

Which is another good example; that this method "lacks the objectivity" is your opinion, but without running a series of controlled listening experiment one can't know it.

That some methods include higher risks of being influenced by bias than others is a given, but that is all that can be said about it.

<snip> Certain people here don’t want to be challenged by anyone with actual knowledge and I’m sure would prefer syn08 to be banned because the truth makes them uncomfortable.

I've no problem with being challenged but I can't stand the lies (I've given some examples for that and could provide more) and the religious like mission does not help either.

Given the appreciation that he had given to the evidence for often overlooked variables in the design of sensory tests, one could argue that it is him who doesn't like the truth.
What about the ad hoc argument that one can't conclude from experiments on double blind test protocols done in the taste sensory field to auditory sensory tests?
What about the ad hoc claim that "opamp difference audibility" is not related to "cable difference audibility"?

When asked for evidence for these ....uhm...wide ranging claims, there was silence; so wrt narrative of others not being able to "handle the truth" it seems to be the other way round.

The logic here escapes me.

IME the BOM on a transparent DAC should be no more than $100 or so translating into an MSRP of around $500. I'm being very generous knowing what the components cost in the real world. As I posted someone fixed the IMD hump an ESS design with maybe $2 and a little savvy. You would do your cause well to get some test equipment and do some bench engineering.

Could be that you simply misunderstood Markw4's post; didn't he simply reported two facts, first that his efforts and findings about the AKM chip might be obsolet if a new promising chip really makes it easier to get the same results and second that Luxman will use that new IC in a DAC with an quite high price tag?

Why should one understand that as a statement that a DAC with this new IC has to cost that much?

Given the number of times Mark has berated people (me) for having a 'cheap' DAC I feel he is certainly inferring something there. He has said that under $1000 is midrange for performance.

But as the logic was brought into, to me it would be more "logical" to understand it backwards; if Luxman gets a new DAC out (price tag as high as 10000 $) than they have the luxury to use the best part (cost no object) and they choose the new ROHM chip ........

yes first to market with latest must have part can charge a premium, and luxman are never cheap, but what is the motivation for saying its going in a 10k DAC, which most would agree is a stupid price.

If it is the new "must have part" that could be an argument; I'm not sure that it is already this kind of part, but the reasoning could be, that the Luxman crew could have choosen whatever part they consider to be the best (although the newer chips are quite costly -if not buying in the k-Quantities and not in china, it doesn't make a difference in relation to the price tag) and therefore it could be an indication for the achieveable level of quality.
