See?
Of course, Mark, I would use a different approach, but the point would be the same. Cut the crap or prove it.
Hi there everybody! There is no use in competing with the opposition here, but I might say that I hope to go to the Munich Hi End Show in May, and T or Z and everyone else interested, I hope to see you there, I especially want to look at the 'mod' and accessory offerings, I need new ideas.
Keep on truckin! Markw4. I need your input.

If you push him hard, he will threaten to put you on his ignore list. 😉Of course, Mark, I would use a different approach, but the point would be the same. Cut the crap or prove it.
There is use. Some (retirees) do it just to pass time. There is no use in competing with the opposition here,

When circuits can't the improved anymore or no audible improvements can be achieved, boutique bling-bling is what's remains 🙂

Right on!
I'm not totally sure what to do with my own self as yet, maybe go to Asia, but I'm sure I'll still be in Switzerland in the spring time frame. So I'd love to see you in Munich: keep me posted if you'll be there.

Topping forever JC !

Thank you. Another example to make my point, although the example is scoring very low on creativity.
Working backwards on your post. 'Op-amp rolling' is not a postive phrase. It implies someone who just swaps around op-amps without in some cases even bothering to check if they are FET or bipolar input. You only have to look at the gushing advertorials for Burson opamps on here. They offered a load of freebies and oddly everyone who got a freebee has posted frankly incredible improvements. I think this will misfire on burson as all the people on here who might buy one now have them for nothing! The reason why i reacted this way is Scott is surrounded by an aura of authority and claims to have an objective attitude. To read his comment, you would think that he says that all Op-amps "sound the same". Which is false, from my personal experience both on listening and measurements.
Of course "op-amp rolling" implies and requires it is done with a correct engineering.
Scott, as a retired AD fellow certainly knows more about op-amps and precision analog that many here (me for one). Many of us can (and have) learn from him, as they can from others who have spent their careers in the real world not the rarified strata of the audio industry. He's also a lot better at the maths of it all than me, but that's not hard. He has nothing to sell which also helps. Not sure why you picked on him TBH.

Do you think there is a market for specialized line level boxes, like active crossovers, equalizers, or even "Linkwitz transform"s for woofers? These are jobs that often need doing, but can get overlooked.
Just thinking: if I could have afforded a Blowtorch, I'd want the matching equalizer (a la Cello) and custom crossover.
Much thanks, as always,
Chris

It was my fault, I was sloppy and said "you guys" when I should have simply pointed out that boutique capacitors have more than once been sold with articles pointing out how bad the same old suspects like Hi-K ceramic and electrolytics are.
Op-amp rolling is a waste of time, IMO dropping in a new amplifier requires a total look at the associated circuit possibly a re-engineering and qualification, otherwise it is just more random data.
Although, it become un-optimal design because different specification of op-amps, still you can not hear the different 😀 So, it is a waste of time. Maybe you regret to design AD797, because it is no sound difference with 741 😀 😀 😀
Such ridiculous and offending comment can only be made by someone who has absolutely no idea what he is talking about.Although, it become un-optimal design because different specification of op-amps, still you can not hear the different 😀 So, it is a waste of time. I did at times think bimo was trolling, maybe he is, but I also think it is his way of making a joke, hence all the smiles, he's just being very very very sarcastic?
Why to care about BS advertising?I should have simply pointed out that boutique capacitors have more than once been sold with articles pointing out how bad the same old suspects like Hi-K ceramic and electrolytics are.
Whether or not Teflon capacitors are hype is not a technical matter. On the other hand, measuring the pros & cons of this dielectric is. As well as evaluating whether these differences produce audible differences or not and if so, are they worth the differences in price, lifespan and size.
On my side, I have no opinion, neither experience on teflon caps. But I should be interested to read serious studies about them. But, if the price is 400$, as you said, and even 40$ that settles the question for me: I don't have such a money to waste for this application.

No, he's just a clueless troll.
Maybe Chris, according to the definition in the rules, only he knows. 🙂
"Trolling is posting inflammatory, extraneous, or off-topic messages in an online community with the intent of provoking other users into an emotional response or of otherwise disrupting normal on-topic discussion."

Bimo, I am sure Scott developed the AD797 only for people like you.
Maybe he did or maybe he designed it for fun.

It seems in this thread become two group/opponent. JC's group vs Scott Wurcer's group 😀
I believe you are commenting the "inflammatory" & "provoking other users into an emotional response" content of the Chris post ?Maybe Chris, according to the definition in the rules, only he knows. 🙂

Bimo side, his question seems legitimate to me, applied to the audio world. If there is no audible differences between Op-amps, why bother to design more expensive ultra low distortion ones ?
To satisfy this other "fashion" attitude that is showing amazing numbers ?
But i think I can imagine the Scott answer: there are a lot of other applications for OPAs (outside of audio) where low distortion is a requisite.
