Hey Bob, you're having too much fun there!

Hi John (JC),
Yes, wet slug tantalum capacitors are worth while. There isn't much smaller for the same CV product with as good specs. So if you have to replace one (or more), you pretty much have to get the same thing. Note that they are axial devices. I have never seen a radial package for these wonderful capacitors.

Marantz used them in some of their earlier amplifiers. I've seen upgrade idiots swap them out for something much worse, and ended up with the new part soaring over the heads of the rest of the parts. I think that over the years, I've run into three bad ones. Easy to remember this as the cost is so high. Two were in one unit (of six pieces).

Would I use them in a device that used normal parts as an upgrade? It depends on how hard the customer wants to push that line. I don't even mention them to people unless they are asking if there is anything left that we can do past what has been quoted. Its been done twice with me. The results were good and the board looked close to factory. So these are not something I would recommend normally simply due to the cost, and will the upgrade actually do any good. In other words, is the basic design and build good enough for those to make a difference?

I’d be more than willing to share my experiences with anyone but I’m afraid it will just give fuel for the ridicule fire.

yes, fer sure.... some will threaten your manhood. Some will tell you, you are crazy or worse. But go ahead anyway 🙂
It's all data, so yeah why not. So how about a moratorium from the usual crowd.....no calls for ABX etc, just let the (possibly flawed) observations flow and then maybe explanations can be derived. Noteworthy is current thread on Ethernet Switch mods......first two posts are quoting subjective experience and by the third post there is strenuous exclamation that these observations are not possible.

Non earthed plug pack SMPS longitudinal leakage is likely the reason for the examples quoted in the first two posts......this is the first point to investigate but this does not cross the minds of the auto naysayers.

So Bob, I am for hearing and investigating your findings, perhaps open minds can find explanations.
While we are at it why not take a closer look at all the information regarding BQP that is available and there is much, perhaps the truth can be gleaned from the peppercorns dropped along the way.

Dan.

I wonder if Max has run his goop past Oren Ambarchi a Sydney guy. Steve Albini Mr. f*** digital himself produced their latest album and fine it is. YouTube
Scott, I seek out Flac copies and download much of the music that you quote and take a listen with open mind. Some is good, but this stuff is junk through and through, IMO this guys is off his head on I don't know what, perhaps you had this in common in your formative years. I don't see the art in this stuff perhaps I chose the wrong albums, please enlighten me/us on what is the 'good stuff' ?

It's all a matter of taste, no? I dislike Kanye and have trouble listening to most country music, but there are millions of people out there that love both.

Certainly, I don't think this genre is intended to be "accessible". It's probably not your morning commute music either. I'm not a huge fan of drone, but I don't know about calling it junk.

You'd think the inventor of the infamous magic goop would have an open mind toward some fuzz.

Unfortunately I can't help you there, my recreational drug experience is limited to caffeine and alcohol. 🙂

What an ayahuasca retreat showed me about my life - Vox

Quote from participant after partaking:
In four nights, I feel like I let go of a lifetime’s worth of anger and bitterness
I think we better book a few people from this thread in! 🙂 🙂
