I dedicated close to a thousand hours testing/evaluating, even making some crude fr and level measurements. I’m glad I did this as I found the end result is dependent on the system as a whole not seperate components. From the source to the room it all must ‘match’ together.

I really don’t see much talk about this holism aspect?
It is mentioned from time to time but is incompatible with the banter about XYZ sounds better than ABC. If you take a step back you realise that no one here has a system remotely close to yours therefore there is nothing to discuss other than good music and recipes 🙂
I don’t have the funds to put into test equipment what I really need is to find someone in my area that has the electronics skills I lack and that might benefit from my woodworking and speaker building experience.
That is a good goal. I used to barter stuff to a friend as he could weld.

Wow!

Did I say wow? So let me ask this: in these 1000 hours of listening to various crossover components (same values, different brands) and measuring FR and level, did your measurements show any difference?

If not, I would be curious about your "design by listening" process. You are not the first to claim this approach (some claimed it even for audio electronics) but I was never able to get the details. In particular, I am curious when and how are the design iterations considered as completed, since you don't appear to start with any hard metric defining the design goals.

Well Bill, I certainly know my system is ‘unique’ to say the least, but some ideas might apply universally?
One would hope so, but as you can see on here, finding common ground using just the power of words is nigh on impossible. Burning amp attendees I think get far more than we ever could. I also believe there is a Candian gathering now and again where beer and food is consumed with the odd listening session (based on the reports).

For example, if you came over to my house you'd probably not find much in my music collection that matches your tastes and you'd probably hate my speakers as my system is geared around my preferred presentation. But after a few beers sure we'd find something we could agree on 🙂

Syn08, It was a educational effort......much like I’d like to try with an old sonance 260 amp I’ve got. Sacrificial lambs one might say!

As far as completion goes, I got to point where I was fully overwhelmed by what I would call ‘system perfection’ if I had to label it. I mentioned this several time here trying to figure out exactly what i’d accomplished but it always ended in some sort of chaos.

And this is not a case of me hearing a good system for the first time......in fact the whole system I’m referencing has a total from source to sound of under $1500.

I’d be more than willing to share my experiences with anyone but I’m afraid it will just give fuel for the ridicule fire.

yes, fer sure.... some will threaten your manhood. Some will tell you, you are crazy or worse.

But go ahead anyway 🙂

Hah....yah it would certainly be a show for sure but even the not so far off the wall stuff I’ve mentioned has been met with lambaste.

Not having the technical experience to relay it intelligently is half the battle, hence my earlier posts on a universal/reference trade lingo.

You fellers have the most convoluted lingo I’ve ever come across.😀

Let’s just say it involves many of the things that are already labeled fud, but I came at it in a reverse engineering sense.

Many of the things you fellers dismiss do in fact matter, but I’m not gonna become the new sideshow especially when the likes of Marsh and Curl can’t even be taken seriously.
