Yes, there's more to it than just basic physics.

From a slightly different angle, one of my favorite demo for smaller speakers is to listen to them as is, then have someone lift them up lightly, by a cm or so.

You could sit on a pillow or is that different. What is not basic physics about lifting an object a cm? There is the relativistic issue that the age of the speakers changes a few atto-seconds or would that be zepto? Does it mean that if your wife changes shoes your stuff sounds bad again from the kitchen/garage.

BTW thanks, I never bothered to see if Focusrite updated the driver for the 2i2, I just put it aside and used something else. I works seamlessly again now.

I think it is due to the multiple eigentones of the room.

Does this mean there will be no more debate about how DAC performance difference in the inaudible range to the nth degree because there are bigger issues to deal with as billshurv puts it?

At the end of the day if we have a system/room that does vary widely over a few inches then arguing the last gnats chuff of anything is pointless. There are bigger issues to fix there.

I am now running my Tascam soundcard loopback Line Out to Insert In with standard bootlace elcheapo 2RCA-2RCA cable.
How do these numbers stack up ?.

If a too heavily treated room is bad for sound, what about listening on a rooftop with no walls or ceiling? How do you make that sound good?

I haven't been on a roof top, but when outside with nearly no barriers (all really far away), I used some OB speakers for a eulogy and after party thing. The sound was AMAZING. If you've never done this, you've never really heard Frank sing.

Think vibration: lifting a speaker even a mm from whatever support it used to sit on will change the way the cabinet vibrates, for better or for worse. Like stvnharr said, try it yourself, it takes only a minute.

I have, didn't do anything certainly not dramatic. I could try again, I don't listen very loud usually. BTW why does everyone always end up saying all these effects are "dramatic". My idea of dramatic is to swap out Klein horns for Magnepans without changing anything else. Also this is still ordinary physics.

Best way to try this is to have someone stand behind the speaker and lift it while you sit back and listen; the diff is the way the cabinet walls are damped, or not. Feel free to close yours eyes if you like it blind.
And of course everybody uses superlatives to get people's attention. 🙂

My custom DIY-built high SR, Ultra low distortion SOTA CFA power amps. Finally got the LED lights working well (blue). The row of LEd lights had been uneven in light output. A new source of LED which are very consistent was suggested to me by friend, Jam.... of Pass Labs.

All chassis parts are CNC milled.

Very nice Richard.

And a big salute to Dadod as well who has certainly moved the performance needle with his design. Superb!!
