Hi Scott,
No, in this case the software (DipTrace) does update all parts. You would do each section on a different page to retain the 100, 200, 300 and so on numbering scheme.
All it does is make things neater and keeps parts in the same area numbered closely. For the time it takes (doesn't), I do this with all completed schematics. But by hand? Not a chance unless it is a small circuit. It's up to you of course, but it is very likely to be me fixing my stuff, and years after I have forgotten all about it.

+1.
Are you still having the THAT thing downstream ?
And why not use a pair of 2SK372 instead of LSK489 ?
Patrick
I'm looking for a substitute, on that point the world needs a good low gain, low noise, open-loop, line stage with lots of extra headroom. Solid state devices don't seem to quite get the noise and wide linear input range at the same time. I'd like to see a +-1V -80dB linear JFET LTP with about 1-2mS of gm.
I'm sure there are other FET's that might work. I don't generally survey the entire field of what is out there.
EDIT - I want the low gm and low Cgs and high Vp in this case. Personal preference to having the FET with no degeneration do all the work maybe. POE 🙂

For your phono as input, 2SK372 has the highest Yfs and the lowest noise, as measured by yourself.
It replaces 2x 2SK170, so 2 of them in parallel is equal to 4x 2SK170.
If you want a not-obsolete device, take a closer look at 2SK2145.
VERY low cost, very low noise (1.2nV/sqrtHz), as low cap as LSK489, 10mS at 1mA, will take 50V ....
What more do you want ? 🙂

Open-loop current transfer linearity with no degeneration and large-ish input voltages. 0.2V min Vp doesn't cut it. My cart has 400 Ohms Rs the 1.2nV noise does nothing for me.
Bob Cordell made the FET choice so a bare LTP had low distortion with high output MM/MI carts maybe not for everyone. You want to bias the LTP hot but still have modest gm for a reasonable gain.

Purity of essence??

2SK208, Yfs 1.2mS, Ciss 8p, Crss 6p, Vp ~ -3V. Will take 50V Vds.
100 pieces for ~ 20USD.

Just don't want to pay 6 USD for a pair of N-JFETs when I can get same from Toshiba current production.

I use what I have around, in this case it was just samples I'm sure the substitutes are fine, I would hope the same spirit applies to resistors and capacitors. I won't pay for Vishay resistors when I can get the same from Dale.
Was not meant to challenge your choice of components by any means.
Just want to understand the rationale behind it.
I guessed you had samples, but that does not apply to everyone else.
For others, those Toshiba active parts are IMHO better alternatives, even for use with MM.
Easy enough to degenerate if necessary.
And once again thanks for sharing the circuit in the first place.
Cheers,
Patrick

I'm sure the DIY community appreciates your efforts to apprise them of all their options.
For those of us without a stash of golden era Tosh parts yup we are always grateful for pointers 🙂
One more tip. 😉
Currently the best substitute for 2SK170-BL is IMHO to use a 2SK2145-GR and just wire the dual in parallel.
If you compare the datasheets, they will be very similar.
Just somewhat limited in dissipation, but you can always add a heatsink.

That is very helpful to know. They may be on the way out as one major source isnt carrying them any longer. So, I bought a bunch of them from another source on internet.

Ironically, that's what I thought was the primary definition. Whoops. Learn something new!
Apology accepted.
Dan.
Well that speaks badly to you if I'm forced to acknowledge it as opposed to what was a small correction.
My original point still stands -- you made a number of claims that would flip our understanding of basic physics on its head, sooooooo yeah. Please provide evidence.

Derfy,
If I can hear it, it exists. If I can't hear it, I don't care. If you can hear it, good for you. If you can't hear it, that is because you are deaf.
If someone else hears things I don't it doesn't matter unless they are paying the bill. That hasn't happened so far.
Now if someone tells me using a pair of diaganol cutters on an interconnect improves the system, that might be true depending on the music. When they tell me it is due to changing the rotation of the earth, the explanation just might be wrong, but the results still stand.
Why do I have to remind you of the basic rules of hobby audio? 😉

2145 is still active part at Toshiba, not EOL.
Just that they are not selling like potatoes.
No need to stock pile.

It's all fun and games until someone violates most all the laws of thermodynamics? 😉
I just rummaged thru my equipment stash and found two new Behringers…. a Ultradrive Pro and a Super-X pro. Both cross-overs … dsp and analog. Add those to the miniDSP and Crown. I have to measure each of them and decide. Or look for better else where. Hmmm.

That’s what I use in the front end my tube phono preamp. I have 8 of them tied in parallel cascoded to both halves tied in parallel of a 6dj8.2145 is still active part at Toshiba, not EOL.

The package effectively precludes them from being used in the DIY world.
