the uA741 was popular with some board manufacturers, one analog tape recorder manufacturer (3M,I think).
yes, it was 3M in their Isoloop M79, possibly M56 as well, not sure.

I'll close this out..... its just my way of slapping around some here who need it. This started as finding education for my girl in Nepal and what degrees to go for that match her abilities and interests etc. She has come from dirt poor subsistence living and naturally doesn't want to be poor ever again. In looking at the income potentials, the most money made didn't follow the college degree program. PHd do make higher salaries than Ms and BS degrees but not outside of jobs which pay salaries. There is no correlation between formal education and money making ability.
I am sorry if this got turned into PHd bashing because it isn't. Its just following the money. Never- the-less, I have worked with hundreds of PHd's in a matrix organization... where the expertise is hired and then sent back to the pool group they working out of. All were salaried people who for the most part loved what they did and loved R&D on a seemingly unlimited budget and support of 1 billion dollars a year for their R&D interests. We all respected one anothers ability and roll to play to go from zero to a running prototype or system for experiments. people were pulled from Computations and EE dept and ME and tech support groups to make up a project group until finished and up and running.... Then we separate and go to another new project formed by other people with the particular expertise needed. I contributed design to experimental test accelerators and fusion program that had considerable depth and breath and expertise. The PHd and group leaders gave me these assignments. We talk here about grounding? Try the grounding for a whole accelerator... High voltage, low voltage, controls, data and instrumentation and computer system ground for the entire facility and project. In addition to the full project coordination between inside groups and outside contractors. Including the building and all crafts groups and drafting and purchasing over sight. This is a carrer job learned only from the inside. No outside person was ever hired to do this type of work. it was too specialized and required intimate knowledge of the organization and a high security knowledge (higher than top secret). I did this very well and was moved into EE R&D before I retired. I know a good PHd when I see one. But that isn't my point here. I don't know who has what degree or any degree. It is the sensitive ego's here are over the top.
I earned my place amongst the best of the best. The highest paid manager at LLNL came from NASA who had been project manager on space flights. Think he doesn't know good workers? I was his right hand man on a project and received the highest raise allowed by him. And, the lab had some funds left over at the end of the year and added more to my raise. I am a hard worker and take no prisoners type A personality. Here it is a hobby for fun and I like to learn. Can we keep it that way?

Type A personality or A-grade troll? Not really sure at this point. Boasting doesn't really impress anyone though and just makes you look silly.

Still don't get the message, do you. Still being defensive. I don't need to boast. I have had my successful run at life. Credibility has been established already by people who are very smart and very talented.
I am pointing out my view from experience working with all types of people and personalities in a highly competitive environment. Non-stop for 25 years. I've learned a thing or two.
#1 Check you ego's at the door please.

So, what results can you get if you measure CMRR with the phono cartridge attached? Doesn't really matter what the CMR potential is of the circuit terminated in equal Z. We hear it only with cart. So what is it with cart on input?
Pick you own topology to defend as being best with cart.

In the 1970's when I was creating the compl direct coupled cfa topology, I used a push-pull complimentary pair on input which were common base. Cart went into emitters and Vas stage had fb to emitter. very low z input and high gain. Crude but a working concept. After that I stopped on it and on LP systems as a whole. This was for low Z MC cart. How would this compare to vfa today with more refined circuitry? and CMR?

Talking about our work history is not necessary boasting.
No, but claiming:
I contributed design to experimental test accelerators and fusion program that had considerable depth and breath and expertise.
in the absence of any formal education degree, is. In fact, it only proves the boaster having no idea of what an accelerator or fusion installation is, at any other level but painting the frames and polishing the vacuum pipes. We have here at least one member that works in this physics business, I'll let him pick from here.
On the same note, I could claim that I am contributing to the James Webb Space Telescope instrumentation. Guess what, more than 1000 companies and hundreds of thousands of employees do. Only a handful of individuals (none of which I will likely ever meet) can claim understanding the complexity of this program, having the true "depth and breath and expertise" to talk intelligently about. Not coincidentally, they are all PhD's.
P.S. Ah, I forgot about Mr. Bybee working with Prof. Feynman and for the DoD, before integrating his expertise in a magic product. Beat that.

And what makes you think that anybody on a DIY Audio forum gives a hoot about? It's like boasting your Audio expertise on a Large Hadron Collider message board.
No, but claiming:
.
Now you spin my work experience as claims? Good one. Now you need copies of my work evaluations? I can do that.
Check your ego.

Waly, can you get along with other professional people?
Why does it upset you that others might have different life experiences? For example, what do you care that Jack Bybee was fortunate enough to work with Feynman years ago? Why does it bother you enough to bring it up now? Is it because you don't believe that anybody could actually do that, or what? I certainly wish that I had met and worked with Richard Feynman, but even if I had the chance, I'm sure he would have been bored with me almost immediately. Apparently, Jack had some expertise that Richard Feynman could use at the time, so Jack could stick around.
I am not sure about who you really are Waly? Are you just a very young guy making trouble for us? Or are you a degreed scientist, just reacting to your 'inferiors'? You certainly keep your background silent.

That certainly seems to be true. but still..... practice the #1 rule:
Check your ego at the door, my good friend. 😉

Billshurv it wasn't me who was sick it was Marc's, and then his father passed away. I really wanted to work with him. And yes most components can and probably should be surface mounted devices to keep down build costs.
You all need to ponder the sound of one hand clapping.
Edit: not Steven, he needs a hand, and I hope he will find one soon to draw up his boards.

I think I mentioned that I hoped you were on the mend, but let's just move that over to marce and family.
SMD makes too much sense in this application. Any concerns about vibration? (Don't know for real)
John Curl did not recognize me during CAS.
There is a superstitious belief in Russia, I should be rich now! 😀

Okay Wavey from now on we can call you Rich or do you prefer Richard or Dick? 🙂
Nice to see you stopping by this thread.

I don't, what bothers me he's a lying scoundrel (about his Bybees, of course). There.

At high frequency, the path of least impedance is primarily the path of lowest inductance.
..... .

At high freqs..... the center flux density will be low. Or the Ls at center is effectively high. And Ls is lowest at surface (skin effect) and flux density highest.
Then...between a relative low freq and high freq, there is a time difference due to Ls differences (phase diff) within same wire.
is this true?

Wavebourn, was that you who came up to me in the hallway? I thought it was another Russian guy who I helped 30 years ago, and I really felt guilty not being sure if it was him. I'm glad it was you. It was the name on the badge that confused me.
Also, how did you like the sound of the VAC exhibit?
