Indeed. JS always makes a lot of sense.

The audiophile press has been obsessed with MQA as the next real improvement in audio, but anyone who questions those claims or asks for proof gets shut down in various ways. Archimago Archimago's Musings has been crying foul on MQA for some time. However when he wrote to Stereophile they essentially discarded his input out of hand.
The MQA claims are pretty extreme. HDCD did the same things with less damage but never got real traction. The MQA thing is a major PR push with some promise of the Warner catalog. Still nothing tangible to justify the efforts or validate any of the performance claims. Just "golden ears" who claim its a vast improvement and you all need new hardware.

you would think after several attempts, the new hardware pushers would start to understand better ...

They'd probably rather license the software.
They got a small taste with DVD-A using MLP. Need to collect license fees and make themselves appear relevant.
I got a question, why are solder fumes attracted to the human face so much? They're much worse than being followed by camp fire smoke.
All that lead giddily searches for the fastest way to enter your body.
There shouldn't be any lead in the flux vapors, no? Unless you're soldering with something way hotter than me 🙂.
Well it has a finite vapor pressure so there must be at least some?
Yeah that would make sense, but I was under the impression it was a microscopic amount not worth being concerned about compared to the flux fumes. Hopefully I wasn't wrong!
"why not the 9038?"
from ESS:
the ES9028PRO is a pin-compatible upgrade for the widely used, previous generation ES9018S
so, no board redesign!
to acutally see a datasheet I "may have to sign a NDA"

Good point. Maybe they are discontinuing the 9018 also.

The cool, shady back side has lower temp and more importantly lower pressure.... thus the smoking hot solder tip (your face side) is drawn towards your body by pressure differences.... front side vs cooler back side.
Same affect as the camp fire smoke... you move around the camp fire to avoid the smoke but the smoke follows you.

A well written summary for the high-end seeking audiophile......
All parts of the system (including recording) needs to be the best possible performance to get/hear the greatest resolution available.

See I can understand the physics. But it always feels so much more personal, like it's out to get me and my nose that's already got issues.

Anybody ever hear of a simple device called a fan, not to difficult to blow the fumes away if you can't use a simple exhaust hood or duct.
