Should I laugh or cry? Or is this a double double bluff?
This is all a "Who's on First" routine.

morinix,
It sound like she was using the resistors as a sort of divining rod and the radio as here receiver! She obviously believed that she was making a difference, it would be funny to find out who told her to do that and how they taught her to do it! Very funny indeed.

Oh I know EXACTLY who convinced - no Err uh Taught, that's right, taught her this testing (?) methodmorinix,

Thanks again for the input, morinix. I'll stick to "the power of prayer" as my best 'tweak" . '-)
morinix,
Very funny story you told there. Nice way to match parts, just hold the box with the tubes in your hands!
John,
Can I just pray that I get the suspension and voice-coil right on my dome tweeter development or does that only work for electronics? I think I am already praying enough that the vendor I am using can make the tooling from my cad drawings and get them right for the surrounds I have designed. I'll leave the praying at that! Samples will answer the questions.

It's always wonderful to see people taking Cage dead seriously.
John, I am not that kind of person. I only worked at Hovland. BTW I got out of that place after about 3 or 4 months so I was able to debrief myself. A position opened up at GrooveTubes. Much closer to my home.Have you also tried: 'Power of prayer'? Morinix. I think that Neve used it, among others.
'Power of prayer'?.
I'm at a loss for words. I only know about Ghoul Power. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t5YOC-Gf8vQ

Now that we are in a quiet moment, I would like to state (defend) my position on audio design.
I realize that some here think that it is just marketing and that just about anything sounds OK, at least well enough to enjoy the music.
I wish to say that marketing works both ways. It can promote good stuff, or it can inhibit the appreciation of good stuff to sell CD's for example. Sony can be just as ruthless as any hi end wire supplier, maybe even more. This is not 'objectivity' either.
Now I have this drive to make better audio. I have had this drive for about 50 years now. I have kept on topic, moving through university, industrial work experience, self study, and finally self experience in making designs that 'stand out', even to third parties, who notice a difference.
Some of my friends actually started appreciating hi fi in a serious way, even before I got into it, but they drifted to photography, sailboats, family, or whatever else, and did not 'grow' in their appreciation or knowledge of hi fi reproduction, because they fell away from it to pursue other things.
Now, I have all this experience, and I want to share some of it with others, just like Walt Jung and others have tried to do over the decades. I initially thought that this particular thread was the best place to try to convey my best experience, to others who might be interested in making similar progress in fabricating their own audio equipment. Now I am not so sure. However, I still have the best intentions, and will contribute when I can.
Some of my ideas and opinions might seem 'excessive' to some, but they appear to have won me awards in excellence over the decades, so maybe they are at least worth consideration. I also realize that my efforts toward 'perfection' can be tedious and expensive in production, and so many of my commercial designs cannot be made the way I made the Vendetta SCP-2, or the CTC Blowtorch, for example. It is just too difficult to farm these procedures out to other people engaged in a commercial enterprise. However, it is the customer feedback that I get from the Blowtorch and the Vendetta that keeps me promoting these added efforts when it is possible to use them.
Now, if I am again allowed, without derision, to put out some of these ideas that I freely talk about with other internationally successful audio designers, I will try to contribute here. If not, well, same as usual, I guess.

So then why are both of those ventures now defunct?

Yes, as he had a fantastic sense of humor and hardly took himself seriously. An anecdote: Phone rings. Cage answers:It's always wonderful to see people taking Cage dead seriously.
"Hello?"
Person: "Is this John Cage?"
Cage: "Yes."
Person: "THE John Cage!?"
Cage: "Yes." <hangs up>

And in other news, it sounds like Linear Integrated Systems has managed to make some more SJ74, as Jan is offering one along with an SK170 with purchase of Linear Audio vol. 6. My email says 2SJ74 and 2SK170, but I suspect Jan meant to write LSJ/LSK...

Yes LSK/LSJ, I have not been careful enough, apologies!
I'm really gratefull for the guys at Linear Systems providing these samples (and a LOT of them!).
I'm curious what people's experience with them will be, especially with the 74B.

I'm excited. I still have some 2SJ74 but I've been reluctant to design with them.I'm really gratefull for the guys at Linear Systems providing these samples (and a LOT of them!).

Companies coming and going is as much about good business practices, as anything else. I am a lousy businessman, and I hate running a company.
Mark Levinson lost his company too, as did Saul Marantz and Dick Sequerra. These companies appeared to continue because these guys used their names on the company's ID. Therefore, the 'person' seemed to continue, even until today.
Today, I am continually asked to restart Vendetta and CTC. So far, no offers quite make the grade, mostly because I do NOT want to run the company. Still, I have confidence in those designs, due to the feedback from my former customers.
