Jim Morrison Pardoned

jlesm - your list of criminals is growing bigger. Some of them are not even "guilty". Well, that's what happens when someone has certain "fixations". Media blabber seems good enough for you to convict them.

I don't care much about Morrison or Polanski. Yes, good music and good films but that's where my interest ends. I'm not a prosecutor, will never be. Very nasty and slippery job.

Polanski never served any time. He underwent a pyschiatric evaluation, but that's not the same as being put in jail or going to prison. He accepted a plea agreement to a lesser charge for which he expected, but was never promised, probation. He fled when it became apparent that he was going to have to serve a (light) sentence.

I hope you don't intend to bill me for that analysis. 🙂

True John, the agreement was for "Time Served". He did not get a harsh enough sentence, but that was the agreement (and a sign of the times). For the Judge to back out of the deal after that was wrong. But Polanski should have stayed and done his light sentence, it would all be over many years ago. Of course he was rightfully worried that the sentence would not be light, what with all the grandstanding and hype and changing deals.

Similar to a few years back when he was supposed to fly to L.A. and be pardoned and all charges dropped with time served. No cameras allowed. Then the D.A changed the deal (again) and Polanski refused to appear.

My opinion: If he had not been famous this would have all been over in a few months, a year tops. No one outside the case would remember it. But they do love the media spotlight in L.A. 😉

Well I said that I like all of those guys but it is true that personally I would be just fine if there were NO lead singers period. However given that it seems to take a singer with a "strong personality" to make it to the top I wish I had one and I am always looking for one.

On Polanski the crime he was charged with is only a misdemeanor and you can't do prison time for one. A year in county jail is maximum. He was arrested on some felonies but not charged with them which means the DA did not think he could prove his guilt. The chick may have been high but she was willing (I know it is still illegal) and I have seen no evidence to suggest she was "drugged" beyond the fact that he was contributing to the delinquency of a minor. In other words he provided the drugs but did not slip it to her without her knowledge or if he did there is no evidence that he did. I think he should be treated exactly the same as everybody else. I don't live in California so I don't know exactly how they treat everybody else for that but I would think probably not any worse than they did him.

speaking of that - how prohibitive is carrying 4L of booz in suitcase
You can't carry that much liquid on a US flight.

I remember, back before the liquid restrictions, my wife and I carried a few of those little "airline bottles" of rum onto a long, long flight from Honolulu to New York. We made our own rum and cokes.

What we did not know, but were quickly told by the flight attendant, was that it is illegal to do so! What? That's right, you can't bring your won booze on board. Gee, I wonder who got that law passed? 🙄

ya know - for one Dutchy Whale , you're too much informed

seems logical to send one brzojav to Den Haag
I would abandon that , only if you find me nice Lederhosen , as drawn by Breugel

! with plenty space in front area ( just as compensation for my wounded ego )

.....
Send it, make my day, i'm dying to get off this planet, you Man in Bac !

naah .... even if in line with divine comedy - it's still funnier with ya aboard

( btw. me thinks that boyz in Au Vaterland have no big enough sausages , to have hosen for moi ; only if I can borrow Manu's , made by special order ..... for our Cyrano in Ausland , with Love ........ )

each to his own how to handle sickos.

Jacko, how about search and destroy. Sounds catchy. :clown:

Actually that was incorrect. His father survived Mauthausen but his mother died at Auschwitz. Not to mention what happened to his wife. So yes, I'm also interested in his life.

Was it the law or the airline's rule? You were riding on their airplane, after all.

Polanski was charged by the State of California. He was not charged for buggering a minor but he was arrested for that and a few other charges. I don't remember what the final charge was but I do remember that when I looked it up it was a misdemeanor and not anything near as bad as buggering a minor. I live in Texas but he was charged by California. I looked it up when he made the news again which has been maybe a year or two ago.

He does not deserve any special treatment but I don't know that he got any. I don't think he did really. But as for being crucified by the media and kinds of people online I think people should lay off not just because he survived the holocaust which must have been a heck of a situation but because he was not treated any different than anybody else. I love to be the first one to dogpile on celebs when they f--k up get special treatment but I really do not think that he did. Although somebody who lives in California and is very familiar with their laws and also what actually happens to people convicted of them would know better than me.
