Hello.
Does anyone know of any jfet-based srpp preamp?
I know this is very popular among tube amp fans,
I am considering building one.
Any pointers to tips/tricks and websites would be
highly appreciated.
Thanks in advance,
Yves

Yves,
(is it Vidal?)
The reason for using SRPP is as I understand it the lack of positron tubes.
Why not consider something with p-channel devices instead?
Regardless of this, there is no reason why you should not replicate a tube SRPP with alternative devices.

No, I don't think that's the reason for SRPP. Check out http://www.tubecad.com .. lotsa SRPP explanations..

Uhm, well, I have a Hafler SE100 preamp which is an
all-JFET design. Diff amp input and a complementary
output that appears to have a 2 uF coupling cap only
for turn-on DC transients. Does that fet the
description?

You probably could mean Jack Orman's MINIBOOSTER (and it's derivates), which is basically a JFET SRPP schematic. You should find it at http://www.muzique.com/amz/ .
Mention: This amp is considered as a guitar preamp (with intended smooth distortion properties), so the values of the parts have to be changed somehow to fit it into the hifi world.
I can sent a little gif to you per mail, if you don't find it.
regards
Klaus

Hello.
Thanks for all the responses.
The reason for the n-ch only amp is more an
experiment to gauge (at least for myself) if
jfets hv any tube-like properties as far as
audio is concerned. It is particularly attractive
because of it's flexibility with its use of -ve bias.
I was thinking of using it as an output buffer for
a dac.
p-ch jfets usually do not match all that identically with
n-ch devices, as with all other bjts, mosfets etc.
Plus, one can get dual matched jfets in a single
package.
Currently, my understanding leads me to
think that all the analysis for tube srpp amps
are applicable to jfets, with minor modifications.
Conclusions like optimum resistor loading,
mu followers, etc should be useable too.
Inputs appreciated, as always.
TIA,
Yves H (not Vidal)

SSRP JFET outputstage
Try to look here:
http://www.sugardas.lt/~igoramps/grass_preamp.htm
Isn't that exactly an SSRP outputstage?

just tumbled over this old thread
sorry to 'reopen', but thought it looked.... hmm.....interesting 🙄

I think the mentioned thread is very secret 😀
actually, it was the Skiff Grass(Igor Shaev) guitar preamp schematic that got me here 😉
well, and in the first place searching on jfet mu stage(and srpp) 🙄
but man, this thread is old 😱and short 😱😀
