Is jbl terminals backwards
Black is positive
Red is negative
Is RCF the same or opposite
I know the 9v battery test but what about compression drivers. .
ALSO
I realize I can use 2446 diaphragms in 40..41...45s
But is the JBL ones really worth 3x the money..
The USD is 25% more now in Canada
I currently have 2 pair of 2445 and one pair of either 2240 or 41..no backplate on it and the diaphragm is blown on one..

Yes, the JBL terminal color codes are the opposite of everyone else's.
Don't use the 9v battery on the comps.
Radian in California makes affordable replacement diaphragms for most JBL comps. They're aluminum alloy with a mylar surround. Personally, I don't think they're as harsh-sounding as titanium.

It varies from model-to-model.

I opened up the driver and this is the diaphragm inside..
Looks like a 2441
Cleaned it up and it works. ..nice
Also got 4 EV HP940 so I now have enough parts for 8 tops consisting of a 15"rcf and a JBL 2445/2246.....maybe a 2404 also
I was curious if the radian diaphragm in the 2445 would make a 2446 out of them

Of course not.
The 2446 has a smaller magnet than the 2445, a different phase plug, and the diaphragm has a pattern of stiffening ribs embrossed into it.
A 2450SL is the hot ticket (if you can't afford Be), it is a 2445 with a damping compound.
The Radian is OK, but has a big resonant peak around 16Khz.

"It varies from model-to-model." OK, that's not complicated! My direct experience with JBL has only included models with the counter-intuitive polarity color coding; I didn't mean to mislead anyone.
The Radian diaphragm will make it Radianesque, not 2446.... I have a pair of Radian 1.4" drivers on RCF HF94 horns in my club system, they sound smoother (to my ear) than the JBL drivers in my friend's SRX715 tops. ....just opinion....
I've never heard their JBL replacement live, but if there's too much "air" at 16kHz, there's always EQ.
Umm...there's people who can afford Be?
