Is this too much? If I do go this route will I need to buy different components than the ones listed in the BOM in this thread? Please help.

There's nothing wrong with an oversized transformer, if it fits your budget. This hobby is all about overkill. 🙂

Ah, if I'm looking at the right BOM, it calls for a 450VA transformer.
I believe the original F1 used a 300VA transformer, so anything 300VA or larger should be just fine for a stereo amp.

Then step up to more overkill for far less money. I use their HV transformers in tube amps with no problems.
