Peter,

you got me thinking. $500 for each woofer, $250 for each mid and I assume a simialr ammount for the tweeter. that is $1700 or so for driver alone actually $3500 per pair. add cabinets, XO and amps and you are talking 5 figures. Wow! And you are only 40!

Well I live in India. these numbers baloon 50 times so pardon my shock. I could buy a house for that much!

Audio addiction is bad...bad....bad.....

my project is estimated at $10k
for parts just for two cabinets.

gonna take a while to build,
been 2 years and I'm still
drawing what it looks like - LOL

It's getting to the point where it's
not fun.

If it's not fun, is it worth it?

I on the other hand am seeing how little i can spend for a musically statisfing hifi -- much more of a challenge than just throwing money at the problem (not that i have a problem with that approach if you have the money).

i agree with dave. my system has reduced from a triamp 4 way having 18" woofers, 8" midbass etc... to a biamp 3 way having 12" woofers, 6" midbassetc... to what essentially is a 6" 2 way with an 8" active for bass augmentation and difraction step compensation. my enjoyment of music has actually increased in these years.

In my basement workshop I'm using this small Triangle speaker. I bought it on special from Zalytron as a kit for $100. I built enclosure out of maple 3/4" boards. There is no crossover on mid-bass driver and only single cap on a tweeter. I'm using Zen to drive it and my source is Marantz CD-94 with Sonic Frontiers TransDac. For me it is my Frugal-phile. I cannot say that this system brings less musical enjoyment than my main system. Actually I listen way more to the Frugal-phile system, because I'm usually in my workshop.😉
