I am finishing a tube preamp and have 4 inouts. Now they are all RCA but I'd like to make one a optical input.
Can I assume that the pre has a built in DAC ? Most optical signals are digital so they need a DAC to get them to analog so the preamp can use them. There are lots of optical toslink to coax converters out there on ebay, twisted pear audio also sells a decent one. Never heard of any analog optical stuff for audio.

You could put this inside your Pre-Amp.............................

There's little black boxes for around $20 on eBay. Search for digital analog audio optical converter
The one that I looked inside had recognizable name brand ICs. Not high-end by any means, but vastly better than the motherboard audio on some PCs and laptops.
I just checked eBay, and they're now well under $10, including shipping.
