Iron Pumpkin(s) and other smaller vegetable animals, Tips 'n' Tricks thread

All that makes sense to me and is in sync with how I am responding to the IP.

I’m reflecting on what is the most important next thing to put my time and energy into. The answer I think is speakers.

I only consider the basement horn/OB system to be a kind of “what if” on going Frankenstein project. My OCD says it needs further work, but I am thinking my efforts may be more fruitful elsewhere.

Possibly I’d be better off getting the OB back together with the Sonido and try some other FR on them.

Now that I am doing better physically I am hoping I might finally get a better cabinet sorted out for the Tannoys.

I will be curious to hear what the IP sounds like when I swap it into the bedroom system with the F2J and Kirishimas in place of my “Iron Hypo” DCB1 with Jensens on the output.

I have more than one amp that I am interested in building and that I have collected boards and parts for. SissySIT has been waiting a while.

Though I can’t help but want to get back to finishing the restoration of those SIT-1 amps.

I wonder, what would be the ideal speaker to use with the IP driving the SIT-1?

I set up a Wiim Ultra I got as an Xmas present for the first time in the living system yesterday…mainly because I couldn’t yet plug the MacBook directly into the Iron Pumpkin due to the cable issue.

I don’t have a cable that can even get a digital audio signal from the MacBook into the WiiM either! I have to get something that will work from USB-C to S/PDIF.

However, I was surprised that it was a no-brainer to get my iPhone connected via bluetooth and I could then stream anything I wanted from Apple Music through the system.

I was even more surprised at how good it sounded. The additional signal voltage from the Wiim makes a big difference for sure…but the resolution really surprised me.

This has me thinking more about keeping these KEFs functional and even refreshing the crossovers and tweeters as I mentioned so that I have something to go back to compare my other projects to.

I do think it is worth it to have an amp that is better suited to the KEFs. From what I have read previously it seems like an F5, F6 or Aleph J might be a good choice depending on tastes. I have boards and parts for F5, F5T, Aleph J and the more flexible Aleph kits Randy was offering over the past few years.

I will be bringing up the Babelfish J2 amps to try with them again.

I agree that the SIT-1 project is destined for something OB, dual concentric, a combination of both or horn loaded. All are in progress to some extent or another

I believe you have better amps at home, both better suited for KEF (dynamics) and more resolute (details).
:rofl::rofl::rofl:

Yesterday was a small nightmare…lost power for over 24 hours due to a storm and tornado ripping through the area…which prompted me to install a long overdue generator hookup so we could keep our food from going bad and etc…exhausting!

Well today even after cleaning up and getting the house back in order you can bet I busted my a$$ to drag my big boy amps up out of the basement to try with the KEFs.

What can I say?…really I’m sitting here just sort of giggling. Do they really need more watts? My son came up from the basement to tell me the ceiling was vibrating in his computer room 🤪

significant difference ... ?
Yes for sure…it is absolutely lovely this combination.

As opposed to the basement system which was overwhelmed by it…this is exactly what these speakers needed to inject life back into them.

The sound stage and detail here from the Iron Pumpkin combined with the Semisouth down BJ2 is remarkable.

Things are placed well in a space which seems wider and deeper. It is not harsh sounding. It has a good balance, not too warm, yet remains very precise I would say.

The bass response and control (which many complain lacks with the KEFs) is just down right amazing.

I’ve been listening all afternoon. Now the kiddo has to get some sleep for school in the AM.

I’m looking forward to listening more tomorrow.

I may do a little tweaking of the gain setting in the IP to get just a little more headroom for my analog front end. Some of my recordings that I like to listen to at higher levels could use just a bit more.
