Iron Pre Essentials Kits For The DIYA Store - Register Your Interest

Can I steal/draw some 500mA max from the (very clean well-regulated 24V) IP relay PSU to drive another device without ill effect? It is Pa’s FR EQ circuit. It will save me a 24V PSU.

nope
- relay 24Vdc PSU is dirt as hell, Audio GND is somewhere floating in between
-Papa's FR Eq is using single rail , thus positive (24Vdc?) and negative being ditto audio GND
-hardly that Pa's FREq is asking for 500mA; in more Fi than Sci scenario that it draws 500mA, there is no way of juicing that much from anywhere in IPre PSU
-but - main reason why you can't chip in anywhere in IPre PSU is position of Audio GND - you simply don't have 24Vdc anywhere on disposal, ref. to Audio GND

Thanks @william2001 and you are referring to the JP1/2 jumper pin 2 where the gain is set for 6db or 12db. But when you say connect to the pin 2 straight I did not get what to connect sorry.

A quick question before I start building my SE board, if I do not want the gain of the autoformer can I eliminate it to get 0db gain? If so how do I go about doing it with the wiring. Idea is to first make the preamp without any gain to test with my setup and later if required add the cinemags for the gain 🙂

Thanks

permanent solution:

assemble it without xformers

solder wire bridge instead

edit: as William sez - if you want just to try it, with xformers already in situ, remove gain jumpers, take output hot from mid pin of gain header;

that way xformers are electrically out of circuit, and you have temporary patched output from said mid pin and gnd anywhere

The time is nigh!

Read the following carefully, please.

@Jason will follow soon with anything that's necessary to add (and/or correct anything that I just got dead wrong).

The next set of kits is ready to go. As mentioned, there is a limited quantity. That said, there should be enough for everyone remaining that expressed their interest through the survey but did not get the opportunity in 'Round 1'.

"How can I, a humble non-Greedy Boy, help make sure that everyone gets one?", I hear you empathetically ask. You can limit your purchase to only what you've expressed interest in buying. We are all Greedy Boyz, and Papa himself graciously let us delve into his private stash of parts again to help us get kits more quickly to more people. So, please don't hoard. If hoarding is detected through the sophisticated anti-greedy boyz electronic countermeasures, your order may be reviewed and politely discussed prior to shipping.

How is this all going to work?

It will be similar to the last run with one large exception. Instead of offering kits to individuals one at a time with a 15-minute timer, kits will be released to groups. The advantage is that it will take less time. The thing to consider is that no one will have an uninterrupted time where they know they've got a kit allocated just for them.

So, it's important to understand that not everyone is guaranteed a kit, but that every practical effort is being made to be fair to everyone that expressed their interest. Shout out to Jason!

What do I need to do? Wait for an e-mail. It should arrive within the next day or two, and it will have clear instructions.

What happens if I don't get a kit, and I really want one? Wait patiently for the Super-Mega Deluxe Cryo-treated Iron Pre MKVI Greedy Boyz Special Edition. Coming to a diyAudio store near you.... soon... :snail:

Also.... parts kits are ... coming... soon.... :snail:

That said, there should be enough for everyone remaining that expressed their interest through the survey but did not get the opportunity in 'Round 1'.

Sorry to be "that guy", but I wanted to ask a clarifying question. I signed up for Round 1. I evidently received an invitation to buy the kit, or at least I was meant to have -- I think something went wrong and I didn't actually receive the invitation with the password until I requested that it be re-sent -- by which time the kits were out of stock. I think I * thought * I had a store account (because I had made purchases from the store before) but I actually didn't, so I got the "invitations are going out" email but not the actual invitation email with the password. I got that once I re-visited the original email, re-checked, and asked for it to be re-sent.

Anyhow, I did not make a purchase. Will I still be included in the list for the Round 2 invitations? Or will the Round 2 invitations simply go out to those who did not receive the Round 1 invitations?

Apologies for clogging up the thread with questions about my own personal situation, I hope perhaps at least someone else can benefit from the answer to my question.

And thank you all for the hard work you've put in to making this kit available in the store to the greedy and non-greedy boyz alike.

I used the AN-0218 (25VA no shield) with CA-002 cover…having used a baseplate in my chassis these barely have enough clearance for the top cover. If you’re bolting the AS-0518 with CA-003 to the floor it wouldn’t be an issue. I do have a little noise in my IronPre, as to whether the shield would make a difference, I just can’t say.

Welcome to round 2!

Invites for round 2 purchases are being sent in batches. The first batch of 50 invites has just been sent out. Anyone who receives an invite now has 72 leisurely hours to complete their purchase. However your purchase must be made within that time. The batch size has been calculated so there is no risk that if you received an invitation, you will miss out on purchasing. So if you got an email, you can relax and complete your purchase in your own time.

After 72 hours all the passwords from this batch will be voided, and a new batch of invites with fresh passwords will be sent out to the next batch. We will see what is left after this batch and adjust the size of the next batch so that again if you got an invite, you are assured a kit.

This will continue every 3 days until everyone on the list has had their chance, after which we'll open up any remaining units for public sale.

Will I still be included in the list for the Round 2 invitations? Or will the Round 2 invitations simply go out to those who did not receive the Round 1 invitations?

You will be at the top of the list.

Anyone who was sent a round1 invitation, and did buy, has been removed from the list. Anyone like yourself who got an invite but didn't buy, is still in the list and now shuffled up to the top of the list.

🙂
