Iron Pre Essentials Kits For The DIYA Store - Register Your Interest

No need... Apologies. I thought you had that spec from ZM's posts. I'll be sure to add that to the BoM also.

Pitch on boards is 0.1" <=> 2.54mm

Pitch of part linked is 1.27mm <=> 0.05"

Not sure that'll bend for you. It will mate with the cable of the same pitch, but the SMD part linked would likely take some serious fiddling to get it to work on the boards ... 4 times for balanced... Not sure it's worth the effort.

That's if I've interpreted your dilemma properly.... which ... as we all know ... may not be the case. :joker:

Either way... I likely have a ton of extras laying about. I'll be back in town on the 5th. Hit me up after if you need some mailed to you.

Right... but that's also pitch for the cable you have... (NKK 633-ISDC). You'll likely need a different cable and a different socket.

A non-SMD / PCB pin header that fits the cable... still won't fit the boards.
The proper header that fits the boards... won't fit the cable you have.

Hope that's more clear.

I don't know what finagling Reima has in mind... but for cables that are already terminated... I would not take them apart.

I'd spend the few bucks and get additional proper ones already done and return the others. Those ribbon cables are notoriously hard to get proper connections to all pins / wires w/o the proper tools. Again... not second guessing anyone, particularly Reima since I missed their proposed solution, but hoping to avoid further issues on your side. Once I get home, I'll update the BoM. 😉

We/I can't speculate today. I ordered a pin rail and socket to try on the NKK. If it fails the safe solution is to order your parts you recommended and return the Mouser bits. Or, as Mighty werker of Iron suggests, 'make your own'. I can update tomorrow late when parts arrive.

^ I just took the pitch from the spec sheets of the part numbers you posted that you ordered and/or were recommended to buy from Mouser.

As the Mighty One would say... Proof is in the pudding... but my guess is that they're the 0.05" pitch parts. Wee tiny.

Good luck and have fun! It's all part of the process. Heck... I still hope for the day when I actually get a full parts order correct on the first try.

Have to order some 1uF caps because dodo me missed a zero ... of course I don't want to JUST order a few caps and pay shipping ... so I order more stuff that I don't need yet for projects that haven't found their way to the bench yet... and the cycle continues.

...and throw in 'expert' advice from the Co. Tech and you have a witches brew. 🤐

I avoid techs as they have never gotten things right or found a part I can't find on their website. Only in desperation do I. As the Iron Pre BOM didn't have a part # and I am ordering parts while working on other amps to keep going I take my chances. I knew if I could not get proper parts a pair of snips will make any wire pitch needed. :gnasher:

I apologize if my post (#998) has caused confusion. It was a reply to post #996 by ghitus (should have quoted him in my post):
"
Hi guys, please, do you have suitable Mouser part numbers for:
-Jumper Headers and Jumpers
-14 Pin Header Components"

710-61201421621 is the 14 pin header that I used together with the cable from Amazon.

The other parts in my post #999 are what I used for the jumpers.

Hi Reima -

No worries at all. You certainly didn't cause confusion. I just missed that post and I did not want to imply that whatever was suggested would not work (because I had not seen it).

Thanks for reposting the link.

That part (at least from the link) shows a 2mm pitch connector on the cable.

That doesn't match with what @Holzarbeiter said he purchased (that I saw him post) or was planning to get... or the pitch on the PCBs.

It's DIY... and most things truly will work. However, the pitch on the boards is 2.54mm. So, it wouldn't be my first pick for a cable / or likely the accompanying header, but it could work.

It's I that should apologize... I easily could have popped in the example links into earlier BoMs and/or better described pieces that were more 'natural' fits.

Also... totally unrelated. I was just watching a program and learned a term that's likely applicable within DIY audio.

Edited to add - Internet came back up... I popped the male header part number into Mouser. It shows 2.54mm pitch. So, it's likely that the description for the Amazon cable isn't correct. Not entirely shocking. 🙂

what Reima linked to - amazon - most likely lousy/incorrect info about pitch

I can be wrong, but I never stumbled on 2mm pitch for those - it's either 2.54mm, or half of that

Amazon is big market covering from needle to Dirigible , but I'm not expecting to get same level of tech. expertise of presnted data, as I'm expecting from specialised Vendors
