Interview with Martin Colloms

It's obvious what needs to be inserted. People believe in their ears, especially when shelling big bucks for a system tasked to provide them with listening pleasure.

And Mr. Colloms and his posse is there to help emptying their pockets. I would not mind, after all even hyenas have a well defined positive role in the planet ecosystem, as long as the perpetrators don't attempt creating their own, private, physics in the process.

I first met Martin Collums back in 1972 in London. I looked him up, and we had a pleasant discussion. I have followed his work ever since. Some of us actually work toward improving audio, rather than just criticizing its excesses.

But when they do and someone calls them out on it, they will call that person troll or noise. That's when you know the call out was accurate.

For that, lets talk about your listening room acoustics. 📐🪚🔨🔈👂

I only watched it from 10:00 on, what was said made perfect sense to me…….but there again I’m a outsider!
maybe a couple shameless magico plugs but I didn’t get the feeling he was trying to sell anything……..this whole “must be a shill if he doesn’t think like me“ is rather tiresome.

Some folks like a lively room. My neighbour has quite as set up on wooden floors and minimal damping. His an opera/classical nut. (Linn + van den Hul cart, big KEF’s). You can’t expect people to not have subjective preferences. It’s when they use bogus technical arguments or make outrageous claims that I have a problem.

Unfortunately, as pointed out by people like Danial Kahneman, human brains automatically construct causal explanations for observed perceptions. The default response in conscious awareness is to accept the causal explanations at true without critical examination. They are simply perceived as knowing, seeing, etc., why something happens. Once believed it can be hard to take the next step and unbelieve an already accepted belief.

Audio religion, or just religion?

Perception seeks a reason, but it is a fact every recording is a mass of 'effects boxes', starting with the microphone.
