Andrew is Administrator.
post388
Am I always Administrator?
Or does it switch on/off depending on what I am doing?
There was another page that mentions "credentials"
Is that different?
You are only Administrator after answering the UAC box granting changes
Over to the right it says:
"Documents library
includes: 2 locations"
What does that mean?
Libraries are a collection of folders, you need to select the 'true' folders. The Documents library (most probably) is a collection consisting of 'My Documents' and 'Public Documents'. You can check that by, right 'Libraries/Documents' and open the properties dialog.
does that explain why UAC appears quite often.
UAC always appears when I start up LTspice.
scad3/exe is the program it is asking permission for.

Do I add
Libraries and all sub folders
Andrew and all sub folders
Documents and all sub folders
Music, pictures, videos?
local disc C and all sub folders
and inside C there is documents and settings
what else?
Just add 'C:\Users\<You>' (and all its subfolders) that will do the job.

Yes, and solve this (as stated earlier (I think)) by making yourself 'owner' of the LTC folder.
tried
start
search box
entered %.asc and a list was appearing, changed to *.asc and I got ONE result.
All the other asc are missing !
tried windows+E and it allowed the just used *.asc as the first option clicked and it went into a long HDD search
saying "searches might be slow in non-indexed locations: E:\. Click to add to index
took it a couple of minutes.
Now the list has 2026 items
At last WIN+E is working the way it did just after DoS.
It asked me to "add to index", which I did.

LTspice should run under Admin privileges so no problem there.
Never, ever... run any (yes sure any 🙂), program under admin privileges, do this only when needed!
Check http://www.diyaudio.com/forums/soft...ltspice-beginner-advanced-38.html#post4277765 (post #376) for some help in setting the security options.
Running LTspice with admin privileges is only needed for installing updates.

That's the main reason I have it set to run as admin. Only other program I use that way is Acronis True Image.
It even searched my old HDD which is plugged in at the moment.
I have struggled with this for years since I lost functionality after I left win95.
Stupid MS !
Can we start a new Thread to move my "Help" request out of LTspice tutorial.
What about a section called "Learning to use Windows"?

How do I switch On/Off admin privileges? That's the main reason I have it set to run as admin. Only other program I use that way is Acronis True Image.
Can this be automated?
When UAC comes up during start up of LTspice, does it switch back off when I become an "ordinary" LTspice user?

First picture in post #1 of this thread shows the tick box to set LT to run as admin (or not).
Once you exit LT it is ready to run again either with or without admin privileges depending on the shortcut settings mentioned above. To run as a one off under admin then right click the shortcut and select 'run as admin'. That is for a one off run of the program.
(I found it easier to run it all the time as admin tbh... and none of this affects your searching for .asc files)
Now Hornresp won't update.
UAC comes up after I try to unzip the download of the latest release. But it says it
"Can't create output file: C:\Hornresp\Hornresp.exe"
and reverts to the old copy that loaded prior to the new download started.

That post1 list looks a lot longer than I remember. I don't know how I set it up for this Win7 PC, nor for my Win8 Laptop.First picture in post #1 of this thread shows the tick box to set LT to run as admin (or not).

I will have to go through that again and maybe change some settings.

Back to searching *.asc
is there a way to exclude *.asc* which finds other files types that start with asc? Can't remember DoS and don't have access to the book. Come back the days they issued books with each DoS computer (DoS & GWbasic).

Hi MoolyLooking at noise simulations for opamps is something I have never tried before, however its a valid question and so this is the result of a quick test 🙂
And so a big disclaimer... as this is a first, I might well have made some huge basic error somewhere...
I took a basic non inverting opamp circuit configured for a gain of 101. The feedback components were 1meg and 10k, deliberately high values to see what kind of results we get. These values would be hopeless for a real audio circuit and so I've set the simulation to look at the noise over just the 20Hz to 1kHz range.
We use the <Noise> tab on the <Edit simulation> option as seen here.
Lets try the LT1056A FET device.
This has a noise contribution that falls with frequency but looking at the scale and the result is not as dramatic as it first appears.

Thanks for your effort in helping me. I did the simulation according to what you have done. Attached is the .asc file. I used LTC6268 amp. I also attached the datasheet. I use a wide band FET opamp to stress the noise. I use 10M resistor to really give high thermal noise. Just use the resistance of R1//R2=5M, the thermal noise is sqrt(4kTR)=287nV/sqrt Hz.
I don't think the result is correct. If you look at the low left graph in page 8 of the datasheet of LTC6268, the corner frequency where 1/f noise equal to wide band noise is at about 100KHz. Also notice how high the low frequency noise goes? Also the RMS noise between 0.1 to 10Hz is shown in the graph at the low right on the same page. The amplitude is in uV!!! The BW of this graph is only 10Hz, so it is in the ball park of BW of 1Hz.
Not to mention I use 10Mohm resistor. That itself is the major noise contribution. The simulation show much too low noise and too low the corner frequency of the 1/f noise. For high speed FET input amp, the 1/f noise is a major issue and this simulation does not show at all.
Thanks
Alan

What about a section called "Learning to use Windows"?
We could do but tbh you would probably get more response for specific PC related questions by asking them on a dedicated Windows site.
These are some of the best.
SEVEN FORUMS
EIGHT FORUMS
When comes to Windows and computer, I always go to Physics Forums in the Computer section. I yet to be disappointed. Not only Windows issues, even fixing virus and malware stuffs.
Alan, your sim file above has the intriguing property of giving the same result even if the input source is set to 'none'. Apart from the opamp output sitting at almost 0.00 volts the noise is still the same.
So at face value using the basic models the results seem highly suspect.
