What type of wire is best when wiring the inputs to the rca's on the f6 amplifier boards?
In the write up by 6l6 it looks shielded. I've got silver plated, stranded copper in 24, 22 and 20 awg

Twisted pairs work just fine. I used to use CAT5, but recently switched to CAT6 because the Teflon insulation doesn’t melt at soldering temperatures.
solid core,tinier, the better
twisted nicely
I like that and I believe it's better than chunkier options

Specifically, following a recommendation by Zen Mod, I like to use Kynar wire - very thin solid core, similar to wire-wrap wire, then tightly twisted.

@Intojazz - Similar to Claas, and upon a recommendation from ZM, I swapped to the Kynar wire for all my input and output (on pre-amps) wiring.
Honestly, I can't tell you if it's better than the re-purposed CAT5 wire I had been using. It is a bit more delicate. Just satisfies my "am I really doing it properly" urges. YMMV
I used the 30AWG similar to Claas. I used an iron to strip. Cleaned properly before soldering to remove all the insulation after stripping.
Link to Mouser also.

I just discovered a roll of vintage AT&T twisted pair phone wire - I am going to try it in my future builds ( which are progressing slowly) Its enameled so will have to deal with that
Good input guys,
What about a quality stripper that will handle smaller gauge wire? Most of the stuff I've seen is just crazy expensive or cheap. I'm looking for something less than $50 that has replaceable blades that won't break strands. Ideas?
Just looked at a pair from knlpex

This one works really well - similar under different names on Amazon.com as well
JOKARI 20050 Abisolierzange Super 4 plus : Amazon.de: Baumarkt
Though not for the AWG 30 Kynar wire - I use the sharp edges of my side cutter-like old stripper to pull the wire over it at angle.

That's probably the best route, IMO. I was just cheap and in a hurry, I suppose. 🙂
Replaceable blades? I am not sure. I use one similar to this for just about everything else, and it works quite well for me. It's cut all the insulation cleanly and has never cut a strand even on finely stranded multi-strand wire. Mine just doesn't go down to 30AWG.

that's the way to do
I had a problem - smallest hole was too big for signal wire I'm using, so I just filed meeting ends (tip of stripper) to adjust - getting smaller hole when fully closed
after that bough few more, to use these for general work, while keeping adjusted ones just for that specific signal wire

Claas - thanks for recommendation🙂
I use CAT5, still have a spool from Radio Shack. The advice I have is to avoid nicking the wire as it breaks quite easily. I also use RG-174/U
Bob - it actually was a recommendation from someone on here in another thread, and I think it pointed to Amazon.com. The one I linked to was the German Amazon counterpart that most resembled the recommended tool. There are a number of similar ones, and apparently they do not all work equally well ... however, I can't find the original one on Amazon.com any more.
There are a number of stripping tools on the US auction site that look equivalent, including the little support for the index finger in the pistol grip, and the cutter on top instead of under the stripping tool.
Here would be the Jokari one again ...

When I used to do a lot of network and telephone work, electricians scissors have 2 v’s cut into one blade for stripping thing gauge wire. Once you own a pair ( they are not cheap) you will wonder why you never had them. They cut most wire and fingers - be careful.

I've generally trusted Klein tools as reputable.

I followed him and he‘s right…
(Edit: but you have to be careful as it might chop off some strands! Either use the smaller awg or press very gently. Other than that, perfect!)
