If you wire it internally at the switch you can have external rca sockets without the need for proprietary cables and always have a single ended AND balanced inputs plus further expansion possibilities.
I've used the rotary selector I linked before and it worked very well.

And would the cables from the turntable be wired as you suggested, graham?
Like in the alternative diagram I have attached, with the following conversion into TRS jack terms:
1 = S
2 = T
3 = R

Check this out for me Douglas, I think the OP needs a wiring diagram.
The thumbnail shows how I would hook up a typical 4pdt switch for this job...
If the OP uses a metal box the grounds will automatically tie together through the case.
If he decides he needs more than 2 inputs, a different switch would be required.
