A shelf of used books (cheap or even free at 2nd hand shops) for nice-looking diffusion in a room.
HarryY -- have you tried cutting these? 2"x2" is a bit wide for some things.
Yes I cut them with both a Table saw and a Band saw
The Band saw was the much safer or the two methods.
I made a simple stand with them Here where I had cut them to size
It's probably too dense for a paper shear, but patient work with an exacto should yield good results. At least my experience cutting through rubber and cork.
I've used mouse pads for similar purposes.

How about gocart inner tubes placed under a slab of granite for you turntable isolation
7 big dollars each...

Thanks HarryY. Would a paper shear cut through, or are they too thick and dense for that?
I think they they are too thick for a paper shear.

Shims for Large Electrolytics
I have had to mount newer (and therefore smaller) can filter caps and didn't want to change the chassis mounted clamp, so I took a 1 inch length of PVC that was slightly larger diameter than the can, cut out a 1/2 inch or so section to allow it to compress to a smaller diameter. It can easily shim out the cap by a half an inch so that it fits properly in the original mounting clamps. It can be painted to look good, too.

Inflated? What PSI?
Cheap, stuffed boards from eBay, even if you have to swap out half the parts, are still a bargain.
Surplus capacitors from the same, using common sense...
Scraps of sorbothane for anti-vibration pads.
Zip ties to organize cables and reduce noise.
Cheap ferrites for the same cause.
X caps on supply.
Snubber circuits on rectifiers.
Russian surplus capacitors, getting to be not-as-good, however.
Free magnepans from CL (your results may vary).

Plumbing pipe for speaker vents
Any wire for speakers, CAT5, extension, mains
Anything out of a dead PC PS, coloured wire, IEC connector, caps, TO insulators, fans

Never ever ever pay full price for a CG cap, transformer, or heat sink.....
It's the difference between building a $200 amp for $100 or for $600.
I use 13 amp mains cable for speaker leads.
And I've lost count of how many people have told me that it's against code, illegal, and that I'm gonna get sued one day. But no amount of threats make me spend $100 on a speaker cable. Extension cord from Home Depot - chop, chop, speakon, speakon. And you can double up one of the conductors.
Best speaker cables made from Belden Cat 5e.
I even use it to make power cord for my amp.
Look up on Tnt-Audio. Got my inspiration from
