Shims for Large Electrolytics

I have had to mount newer (and therefore smaller) can filter caps and didn't want to change the chassis mounted clamp, so I took a 1 inch length of PVC that was slightly larger diameter than the can, cut out a 1/2 inch or so section to allow it to compress to a smaller diameter. It can easily shim out the cap by a half an inch so that it fits properly in the original mounting clamps. It can be painted to look good, too.

Cheap, stuffed boards from eBay, even if you have to swap out half the parts, are still a bargain.

Surplus capacitors from the same, using common sense...

Scraps of sorbothane for anti-vibration pads.

Zip ties to organize cables and reduce noise.

Cheap ferrites for the same cause.

X caps on supply.

Snubber circuits on rectifiers.

Russian surplus capacitors, getting to be not-as-good, however.

Free magnepans from CL (your results may vary).
