So I've only just discovered the world of DIY audio.. hope you can stand some really base questions from an audio imbecile.
So here's the first one.. I recently purchased a pair of Bang & Olufsen model 2600s at a garage sale. These things are like 30something years old, but they sound beautiful. However, one of the woofers produces a very slight buzz or rattle at the low end, pretty much at any volume level. Is it blown? What should I look for when I pull it out? I would love to fix it if it's possible.
Thanks for the help..

Yep, those would be the ones.. wow, they're beautiful. Mine have a lighter finish (or perhaps more faded), and one has a ding on the corner.🙁
When you pull the driver out check for anything that could be resting on/rubbing aganst the cone, including the tinsel leads (the small wires leading to the base of the cone).
Also fire the driver up while you're holding it to check if it is just the driver or it's mount+box causing the problem.
I suspect that it is a half burnt voice coil though...

You speakers (Beovox 2600 1969-1972) can be found on the Beoworld web site here:
http://www.beoworld.co.uk/
Select "Contents" and then "1960 to 1969". There are some specifications that will help to zero in on possible replacement woofers. If you end up replacing the woofers, I'd replace the woofers in both speakers.

Hi
From photos on B& O site , bass driver appears to be an old SEAS unit (-rubber surround) and possilby similar to unit use in Dynaco -A25 or A35 (bigger unit)
Tweeter possibly appears to be SEAS unit also
Hope this helps

Ok, thanks all for the references. The BeoWorld site only says that it's a "20 cm" unit, no further details.. First I'll pull the thing out to see what I can see.. If needs be, maybe someone could point me to where I might be able to locate some SEAS drivers?
Thanks again for the help.
Thanks again for the help.
I've seen driver cones deform over time, depending on the environment. Could be the voice coil rubbing against the edge of the gap.

There's quite a bit more information than that on the bass driver.silverton said:Ok, thanks all for the references. The BeoWorld site only says that it's a "20 cm" unit, no further details..
