I know, that why I thought it was weird. I think its simply malfunctionning, but the difference the pot made is not just better sound, its just like my preamp is not broken anymore. so I guess the pot is weird somehow
Nobel makes a nice pot, always did.
😎
yup
but , as we read , later he had some regrets

im using the pass b1 for a couple of weeks now. The sound is clear and almost 100% transparent.
I cant believe the pot was the problem. What a nightmare this whole thing was, glad it worked out well.

I still have one problem with my b1
the sound is not dead center. Ive wasnt sure so made my GF hear it thru headphone and speaker system. The sound is more right focused. Everything sound slightly more from the right side! if I take out the B1 from the chain, the sound is back to dead center.
What can be the cause?

the right side: 86 db

att pot? the pot is a TKD. the pot is fine im almost 100% certain.
Even before the problem with the pot, I had noticed the gain difference between channel but I thought that was cause by the other problems I had...
I did multiple test with just music and swapping the source. the left side always play slightly louder!

Ive measured my 50k pot. theirs sometime a difference of 2kohm.
For example, if I put the pot at 25 kohm, the other channel will measure 27kohm.
Can that explain the channel that doesnt match gain?

By the sounds of it, you may be buying another pot. If that ends up being the case, you might consider taking a look at these and adding a remote control while you're at it:
BentAudio.com :: Alps
BentAudio.com :: Stepped
The stepped attenuator will give better channel to channel tracking.
I agree with Zen, short the wipers or use a "y" cable at the input making a mono signal to test.
Good luck!

no Y cable ; it goes in front of pot , anyway
only shorting wipers will have same signal to both channels , excluding pot issue from test
