Don't worry the boxes in perfect condition are worth more than the content.I got my grandfathers old Lionel train set (worth $$$$ today, to bad I killed it).
You guys are pretty amazing.. I never actually built amplifiers with tubes or transistors. My first "hifi" consisted of an Altec amp/preame. It had 6L6 outputs and a 5U4 rectifier tube. Ran an 8" full range JamesBLansing speaker in a big box.. Yeah, mono. Turntable was a Garrard prior to the model A....
Hand-me-down from my father. Built a few speakers, got into the audio industry in time to loose my savings... Software tech support pays better. Fiddling with my music server, trying to kill some buffer underruns.

🙂
PS: could it be ridiculous to have two wide band speaker L&R stacked in front of the listener (on axis) ! Center to center could be too big for the trebles (even if they are left & right channel) with 8", 10" or more FR (bicones) ???? I always liked the sound of mono radios while they lacked of volume and bass !)

Yeah, mono.
It has many advantages - you only have to build on speaker, one amplifier channel. And in my case that boiled down to one simple arrangement of one large paper cone and one cheap pentode 😎
Hey Bigun,
I always liked much more the Beatles in mono vs Stereo !
But maybe it is due to Abbeyroad mixing ?!
Did you convert your stereo track with merging the two channel in one mono channel with Audaticy ?
But the simplier number of devices, I believe also the better result is comming from a standalone point source far from the side walls : those two advantages means a lot imho !
If I have lighted montor I will try to stack them with the tweeter of the stacked speaker near the tweeter of the above speaker : stereo point source and twice more efficienty (but one another tube, hey !)
Btw I understand you : I have some crystals I just need to plug from 2 weeks in a socket and didn't plug it yet 😱... three pcb to solder with parts from six months and a DAC to feed with a PS from more than one years despite it's excellent AD1862 dac chip... what I prefer from this hobby is the understanding and listen to music ! The building worry me a lot.... as the compulsive buying... more and more I find those two last things to be borring and unnecessary with years, at least for me. At "only" 46, I may finish with a simplier stuff than you : a mono hp stuff with music in it like a simple transportable radio !🤐

not much to contribute to this thread other than the quick thought that once you stop, it ain't a hobby anymore, just "wallpaper"
Just fit a mono/stereo switch like in the old days..😀
I know what you mean about wallpaper..
Yes what then?
Its just something to look at until you buy a midfi mini system..
ditch all the speakers..put the amp in the loft..
You don't realise it but as you get older what happens when you have a hearing aid..its going to stop then and there is no going back..sad but true!
Enjoy it while you can nothing ever remains the same..
I have a set of Epos 14's in the loft...etc...etc

I am already scheming the next 2 to 3 projects, there is no stopping....!
I have run out of room for projects.
I have amplifiers and speakers stacked everywhere.
I need a bigger house, or a garage to store them in.

That's an issue I have too. So many great ideas that I'd build... if I were more time-wealthy and motivated. And so many great projects I should revisit or give away.... 'cause no way I'll recoup the cost of those buggers.

That is the problem of not enough time, what we need is an apprentice to help build even more amps!
How on earth did you get into 2-tone? Was it even available stateside?
Jeez my neighbor was the grandson of Fritz Goro the Jamaican photographer.
We used to skank to the big bamboo in 1969. Didn't wreck too many pumpums.
Warning Arny et al will think this cryptic.

Just tell the wife to start pumping out babies. 10 kids should cover it.
Hahahaha

That would explain a love of Ska and reggae, but I really thought two tone was limited to the west midlands. One learns new things every day 🙂

My eyes! my ears! It can neither be unseen nor unheard. 😀
Realize I found that because I knew it was there. It's the years of experience. I have it on LP somewhere too.

This hobby cost me $228,000. I caved under the pressure and bought a new place to live as I wasn't even close to kicking the habit. 🙂
