These discussions go round and round so many times it's easy to forget, are the high tech measurement systems being compared to audio applications also making a single measurement across a decade+ bandwidth? In my field the bandwidth of interest is normally +-1% of carrier, 10% maximum. I wouldn't expect contact issues giving rise to harmonics, for example, to mean jack squat in these apps because they never make it past the tuned front end. Is the comparison really apples-to-apples?

Come to think of it, erasing the memory of seeing your avatar would improve the sound of my system.

The other twin is prettier.

Oddly enough, it's not about temperature. It's about the freezer compartment of your refrigerator. They appear to possess some sort of temporal time warp that recombobulates all the things that were discombobulated when a photograph was taken of you as a child.

This by the way is a Peter Belt tweak, and Geoff's been a Peter Belt devotee for some time now.

Apparently, I got censored for asking that the topic be returned to wires and connectors.
However, ever onward. I hope that others will study the two texts 'Modern Electrochemistry 1 and 2' and give me some input to what might be applicable to the discussion here. I just went through part 2 and it is mostly about solutions, and processes of different kinds. Chapter 7 has a short footnote on metal conductivity, but that is all that I have found, so far.

Still off topic, but funny: Richard Feynman did have some interesting things to say about sensory deprivation chambers and LSD. Not sure what that would do to the sound of your audio system, but supposedly he sure heard some interesting things in there!

Back on topic, the questions regarding the applicability of comparisons between high end lab equipment and high end audio equipment certainly have some validity. Instrumentation amplifiers do strive to be as clean as possible and minimize known sources of noise, while audio amps sometimes do not! IMHO, this seems an overt critique of poor design in some audio equipment rather than a question of whether instrumentation used for analog signal amplification in a laboratory setting should be a source of understanding potential noises in audio equipment.

As much as I have tried to transfer what I know from instrumentation design into the audio equipment I have built, I definitely understand that there are many things that people like John have to offer back to me from a different perspective (most recently the Holm contact book, to cite a specific example). I would be a fool if I summarily thought my experience in a tangential but related field automatically trumped the experience of someone working in this field. Regarding the specific question of signal cables, however, I have a great deal of experience with instrumentation using different cables for very specific purposes, thus the reason I have been adding my $0.02. On this topic, I have a pretty decent background and can offer (what I believe to be) reasonably informed commentary.

The question of power cables, I simply dismiss as ludicrous for a variety of other reasons. The immediate ones that come to mind are that no advocates of the high end power cables have discussed mains wiring (at least that I am aware of), or the much cheaper and much more valid alternate option of filtering incoming AC power before it gets to the components. Without both of these analyses in place, I can't fathom why I should begin talking about power cables!
