Gosh, I thought the topic of SMSPs blowing up (the other Hypex thread) much more interesting.
True. Blowing up for real is always more fun that just blowing up metaphorically.
can anybody comment on NC500 with hypex buffer stage and Nord buffer stages? which one sounds better? more musical?
from those 2 definitely Nord buffer as it has corrected circuit, I won't comment opamp choice...
Oh I read them well enough. You provided an opinion, in a comment, as to the quality of the Nord buffer with respect to an adjective "musical" which you openly professed does not have a defined meaning. Or perhaps you were so bold as to say it is more "musical" for any and all possible reader definitions of "musical". A very bold view indeed. 🙂
"Opinion in a comment"? You play quite well with words.
I've just used dave123's words to express my personal preference.
I don't agree with such terms for audio equipment description.
I don't believe other people preferences should play any role when choosing audio equipment (but they may have a value, just as a statistic).
Our new cases much higher quality fit and finish.

Nice cases Colin! They look awful familiar🙂 Are you using the nice Torx screws or the included phillips?

After more consideration, I think i am going to use LME49990 (with Rev C board) on my system, instead of the SI994:s. It just suits my system better overall and everything is just right. Which does not mean SI994 is bad in anyway. But for instance in my room acoustics the bolder and bigger bass is just too overwhelming. It messes with so many things i have been trying to avoid now when i have more control of the result.
Also i just feel more relaxed while listening to LME49990, the sound is more laid back but still provide great sound stage with depth (like OPA2132P, but better). This is just a personal preference too. I might try SI994 later, but I think its just trying to fix something that is already really good and as near perfection as i understand it.
Do you perhaps know a place where the LME49990 can still be bought.
I only find them from Chinese sellers on ebay, which I do not trust.
Thanks
RS Online in the UK still sells them

Thanks, can i solder them directly on an 8pin dip?
I just noticed they are on backorder only.

You will need an adapter for the SMD version. Plus a buyer for the ones you don't want.

I noticed that the LME49990 is not dual like the LM4562.
Do I need two solder two LME49990 in parallel (one above and one below the pcb adapter)?
Thanks!
I haven't looked at this at all closely. Obviously the adapter PCB will have to deliver the correct pin configuration. Bypass caps would need to be on the adapter PCB etc.

3lviz, you have experience with the LME49999, can you tell me more about this?

Effectively a preamplifier and a pair of monobloc power amps in a single unit, the PM-10 uses switching power amplification to deliver huge power – 200Wpc into 8ohms, and 400Wpc into 4ohms…

An externally hosted image should be here but it was not working when we last tested it.

I think it's the hypex nc400OEM specific manufacturing module. It is also used by NAD.
