I have this speaker that stopped working and put my Yamaha into protect mode . I took it apart once but couldn’t find a x over or anything??? It seems a cord got loose and i attached it to the wrong spot .

sony ss rg70av htib I no longer use the Receiver it won’t plug into my led tv. I took the speaker apart once but never took a picture I don’t have any freinds who know anything about speakers. Is that a speaker part of a portable boombox type system? If so it might be okay just not expensive so ask a friend to help. Do not try again if you plugged it into the wrong spot already or you key permanently damage the rest of your equipment.

Yep you were right I found the issue. The wires were all stuck together somehow.Something under the tape in the first pic looks suspect.

There are stray wirestrands everywhere. Depending on how you flip the speaker they might short or not. I hope this is not your final fix!?
The 'x-over' is probably a cap glued to the tweeter.

The dodgy wiring through the cabinet needs to be fixed. At least have the twisted and taped part either inside the cabinet fully, or outside, not attempting to stuff two pieces of different cable through the hole 🙂 It's currently creating a short circuit, and you are lucky you have an amp with protect mode.
There is likely nothing wrong with the drivers.

I've extracted the speaker information for reference:

Those are pics before it was fixed . This bottom driver the sub? Unusual design ?There are stray wirestrands everywhere. Depending on how you flip the speaker they might short or not. I hope this is not your final fix!?

The subwoofer will have a larger voice coil diameter than the woofer for increased power handling. This necessitates a larger diameter central dust cap.
P.S. It is clearer from the earlier picture of the subwoofer that its dust cap is concave rather than convex like that of the woofer.
Yes They have way better bass them my smaller insignias do. Which don’t seem to have any.The subwoofer will have a larger voice coil diameter than the woofer for increased power handling. This necessitates a larger diameter central dust cap.

Place your head directly between the two Insignias. Have a short listen. Confirm phase of the Insignias by swapping the red and black wires on one speaker only. Listen again and report your findings.
