Just found out I'm good for June 19th as well. I should have my RBRs (Better late than never RBR build) finished by then so I can bring them and I'm hoping to have my CSS Quartet 15 finished as well. So if people think a big a*s sub is worth playing around with, I will go to the Herculean effort to bring it and the DSpeaker Antimode 8033. Hope to see a big gang there (and some folks that were at the second meeting that I couldn't make). Take care, Rick.

Hi Guys,

Ripcard - you better get to work gluing those baffles on... I'd love to hear those RBR's. The project looks great so far!

I hope everyone enjoyed the incredible weather here over the long weekend! It was quite a treat to have weather like that so early in the year.

As for the June 19th meet, I'm looking at bringing the following:

- Lynn Olsen's Ariels - V2 - Ariel Speaker Page
- Firstwatt F5 - 25W class A
- Music Server - Musiland Monitor 01 - New D1 style DAC (50W version)
- North Creek Echo bookshelf speakers
- BOSOZ Preamp

- Possibly my pair of full range line arrays - If they get finished in time...

That should be it... and it'll probably be one or the other between the Ariels and the line arrays.

Looking forward to the 19th!

Cheers,
Owen

Mark, have you modded that Pioneer DVD player yet? I've just started some tweaks to the analog output on my DV-353, which should have started very similar to yours and it would be nice to do a side by side comparison.

My to bring list:
-modded Pioneer DV-353
-servo LM3886 amp (~50W)

Hey Tyler!

Nope the player is stock as of now.

Plans for the player are outboard supply and redo the gain stages. But that will be a winter project to be sure. Summer is the time to make money. Who's idea was it to set this up in June???

Wait a minute that was Pierre and I. Darn it!

I blame Pierre!

Working like a dog to make a living then I'll be working like a dog to get stuff finished for the show. My life as a dog sucks!

Woof

er tweet!

Hey, wait a minute, Mark. It was your idea too!

Seriously. I'm happy to read that people are coming. The more the better.

The D1 I/V clone is now in a box, so it is transportable.

I will get started on a Pass De-Lite. It is SO simple there is a chance it might be finished in time.

Cheers - Pierre

Hi,

I should be able to make the June 19 th meet.

I can bring some parts of my system if people are interested. This is what I have:

- Behringer DCX which has various mods (digital input, super regs for each DAC and DAC direct out)
- to 4 X Hypex 180 HG (high +mid) 2 X hypex 400 (bass)
- speakers are Seas milennium, Seas W18 , peerless 12" xls

I will bring one of the dual mono Hypex amp for sure. Let me know if there is interest for other parts of the system.

Froryder and Redshift187, thanks for checking in.

Froryder, do you know of any audio diy events that have been held in Montreal? Surprises me that I've never heard of anything - mind you, it appears the Toronto area is just getting one going...

Sorry for not responding to your post much sooner, only drop in on the rare occasion.
As to your question, Heard about a get together by a local DIYers group but never been able to attend to due conflicts between the groups meeting time and my work hours.
I should look into the group again.
Cheers

I look forward to attending for at least part of the day...I'll be ducking out for my son's soccer game, early afternoon, for sure.

I've just been "lurking" on DIY so far, and getting up the nerve to take that first step, so I do not have any projects to bring. However, I've been wanting to actually hear some "wide range" speakers & some of the other exciting DIY pieces that I wouldn't find commercially. So I would love to hear what you builders have come up with. I've already told the family that I'm going!

Hi Guys!

I'm definitely looking forward to the meet this Saturday, and I've been working pretty hard to get the line arrays done in time. I've got a DEQ2496 coming in on Wednesday, and I should have a few days to dial in the EQ and get them sounding the way I want. I've got all the drivers mounted in one, and I'm just starting the other.

Hope to see everyone there!

Cheers,
Owen

PS: Pierre, do you need any help with setup of the hall in general? How about food and drinks or any other organizational tidbits? If there's anything you need a hand with, let me know and I'll see what I can do.

Hi Guys!

Thank you for your offer. We'll need extension cords: this is an older building and outlets are few and far apart. Mark and I will bring a few. If you can bring one or two we should have enough.

I'll go check the room sometime during the week and see what else is missing. There are chairs and tables. The first ones to show up will help with setup. My wife has offered to go buy missing food and drinks over the morning. Lunch is 'bring your own'. We'll improvise for dinner.

 Your line arrays look awesome. Let me know if you need a vehicle or help to move them.

Cheers - Pierre

Hi guys.

A bit behind on the towers. They are not going to make it to the show. I just sourced the horn loaded ribbons. Sucks I know but that's the way things go when you are trying to do things the hard way. High efficiency in a line array drops off when the the frequency wavelength is shorter than the driver diameter. You need something clean to take up the ball and run with it. I found them last night thanks to a great tip from Bob at CSS. But the Horn sub is almost done. UNHORN 1 and 2 will be there as well. I still have a few surround enclosures to show off.

Here is a bit oh info:

Big yeah I do mean big. 16.5" x 32" x 92"

The screen shots are for the design as it sits in the shop this morning. Just take a look at the impulse response. Mind blowing. Size does matter. I have redesigned this thing at least a dozen times. I always tried for smaller boxes. Then it hit me there is no way I'm compromising this thing.

So we get an enclosure that is 3% efficient at 20hz. Drop the SPL down from the graph by 6 db and you will get 100 db/watt corner loaded in a real room. Pretty darn good. 50 watts will peak out close to 120db.

Bring your test tracks gentlemen. We have youngins to scare the poop out of!

Still have to install some of the panels but the beast will be alive by night fall. Muhhhahahahhah

Mark. Evil wanna be genius. Well at least half of it!

Hi Pierre.

Extension cords I have lots of. Power bars will be most usefull.

Two sleeps until Saturday.😀

The RBRs will be there, but I ran into a veneer issue with the big sub so it's not ready. I can bring another pair of speakers though. My CLD 1S pair is easy enough to pull out of the HT and bring.

I have an extra power bar I can bring. Do we have enough speaker wire and interconnects?

Rick.

Sleeps whats that?

I have been pounding apart the cabinet! Now I am fixing a design phopa.

Every time you get impatient and take corners. Yada yadda yaddah.

So I took off the side this afternoon and have installed full braces all along the throat. The only place where i said to myself. Self, it's plenty strong. Don't ever listen to yourself. Argue with your self that's safer!

Will be buttoning it up this evening so it has enough time to cure properly. I hates prototypes. What did come out of it was indeed interesting. A stiffer box will be even more interesting.

Mark
