Me thinks we are up to 11? Growing. Just need a little water and sunlight and see what happens.
Owen.
Yep I was working on a lowther clone with some decent X-max. Heady days.
Just a simple comment about the weight idea. Some cement can work marvels and I think a bad of premixed sand aggregate cement is $7. It weighs over 70 labs when mixed so you can get a great deal of weight for not much money. Plus you can pour it into the bottom of the enclosure and voila concentrated weight right where you want it.
I have a full cabinet shop by the way. I have only done 9 kitchens in 22 years. Mostly fancy mill work and furniture. So I have more clamps than you can shake a speaker at. and every saw you have ever thought about except a vertical panel saw.
I even have enough intelligence to use them to good effect!

I'm not FROM Ottawa, but I have friends there and I'm always looking for an excuse to visit!
I'm actually from Des Moines, IA, in the states, which is very much light a slightly smaller Ottawa, with a bit less diversity, and not as many good pubs

Wow! They're comin outa the woodwork. LOL
It looks like I'm going to be moving to Ottawa this summer or I should say moving back. I think an Ottawa meet would attract people from Toronto and Montreal as well. I think what may be needed is a mailing list of some kind to keep track and plan.

If this takes off let us know, it sounds like a good time!
I've been designing speakers on and off for 30 years, worked as a professional audio designer at Nortel for over 10 yrs, and love DIY audio (mainly speakers, but some amp and pre amp work too).
Always a good time to see what creative things are brewing in the basement of other audio junkies!

Hi Dave
Cool. Someone who actually has a long back ground in audio. I think the total is at or near 12 members. And I have to agree completely with the fun had when checking out other guys gear. There is so much thought and ingenuity put into projects.

Thurso still counts!
It's about as far as Perth so no big deal in my book. I think we are closing in on 15 or 16 members now.

Hello
I too live in Ottawa. A get together would be nice. Never thought there would be enough of us here...
Thanks for asking the question!

Hello Pierre!
The more the merrier. Now we just need a venue for something or the other. And all of us nutballs can meet and greet.

Just caught the link to this thread on the PE board. Add me to the list. Burritts Rapids, Ontario. 40 min. south west of Ottawa. Haven't spent too much time on this board as it leans more towards electronics, tube gear and single driver speakers. That's why I didn't notice the thread.
Have built another designer's speakers for my HT and am currently building a sub and a set of RBRs. Mechanic/carpenter... so I won't be able to add much to the design side but I have a half decent home workshop and most, if not all, of the tools required for cabinet building.
Just a thought but as far as a meet & greet...we could just pick a restaurant or pub for the first meet up and, if we don't get in a fight over anything, we can plan a demonstration event or workshop day or whatever to move forward.

Use to live there and then the family moved to Vancouver and I had go with them. I grew up in Bleakers TV & Stereo on Clyde Ave. They got me into Tannoy's. Bleakers had the best listening room that I have evey seen to date. The sales man there always had time for my brother and me no matter what, he was the greatest!!. I went to Bleakers in the mid 2000's and it had moved and had become just another stereo store, too bad.
Talk or listen?
Meeting at a pub or restaurant to talk could be a good first step. Relatively easy to make happen. Introduce ourselves, see what items might be available to demo, and decide on a time for a listening get-together. My vote is to get things rolling that way.
I've checked the cost for the Blackburn Community Hall. $25/hr on Saturdays, $12/hr Sunday from 8am to 6pm, $17/hr after 6. It's been awhile since I've been there, so will check out the space again - as I recall it's probably 1500-2000 ft^2 with a ~20 ft peaked ceiling, so a sizable volume.
Will also check out what's available at Louis Riel High School, which is where the Ottawa Woodworker's Association and the Ottawa Valley Woodturners meet monthly (April meetings are next week). Links if you are interested in those groups:

Sounds like a good idea. Short and to the point. I'm not exactly rich enough to rent a hall but enough modest well heeled dudes together could pull that off I think. I'd be willing to help get things set up so the start idea is good. Every good idea starts with a meeting. So...When and where?

The retiree group that I belong to meets once a month at the Carlingwood Restaurant in the Carlingwood mall for free, provided of course that we order something to eat. We meet for breakfast and some of us stay around sometimes till lunch time. I know most of us are not retired yet but perhaps we can meet on a Saturday morning, after the European soccer season is over and before the World Cup starts of course. We have had as many as 25 people show up and as few as 2.

A question mark with your location means I'm not sure what neighborhood you are in. TRD1587, sorry about the superfluous PM, missed that you'd already responded in the thread.

I've sent a second PM to five of these, the rest I suspect are no longer active. Posted a link to this thread on PartsExpress Techtalk, but not on any other forums. Will do so soon - AVS, HomeTheatreShack, and Canuck Audio Mart are the ones I had in mind.
So, 18 confirmed (w/2 way out of town), and another 5 or so possible.
We're spread out, with a bit of a lean to the west, so my suggestion is to find a spot close to the 417, with easy parking. Carlingwood Mall is ok, any other thoughts?
Saturday or Sunday brunch works best for me. Please respond with your preferred times.
I can give a lift to anyone downtown who is without a car. Or, could carpool with other east-enders.

Hi Guys, you can count me in. 🙂
Here are a few projects I`ve completed & working on:
1- Evil Twin`s Natalie P MTM`s using Dayton Reference drivers for LCR
HTGuide Forum - Natalie P
2- I still have the Nat P`s but they will soon be replaced with my DIY version of QSC`s SC-2150 3Way Cinema speakers. Got my inspiration from Chucky over at AVS forum. For those of you that are curious about `em, check out this thread: QSC SC-2150 Clone - AVS Forum
I`m going all out on this one... Building 7 identical channels all around. Have all the parts... just need to find some time and a new house!!
3- 2x Mach5 IXL18.4 in 4.5cu ft sealed enclosures. Soon to be augmented by two BFM Tuba HT horn subwoofers.
