Fair play Ron -I'll take your word for it any time. I know what you mean about the PS -same thing with the Zens; the basic design is easy enough, but getting the power right was a pain. Worth it though -I still regret selling the thing.
So I hooked up the 300b's...
WOW!, this is exactly what I was wanting to hear !😀 I'm either going to have to build a pair or steal these from my buddy
These things are exactly what my 206's needed !

Well now, why does this news not surprise me? 😉
FWIW, a cheaper alternative is to use EL34 run single ended, which should work very well. Cheapest of all is of course to steal them off your mate, as you say.
Hope he's not reading this. 😀

Actually, they were quite pleased with it (they tested the superT). IIRC it even got into the recommended components. Not perfect by any means, but incredible sonics for <$200

Ok, a little off topic, but I had to give my buddy his 300b's back and I needed an amp. I did some more research on the Super T's and turns out I was talking about something I didn't really know much about. So given my modest college budget i.e. Tuition, Bills, Alcohol, and Books. I decided to take the plunge on the Super T. I went ahead and bought it and have been listening to it for a couple a days now. I've pleasantly surprised. Not the best amp in the world, but it's sure worth more than what I paid for it. Thanks to all who disagreed with my unfounded opinion. Don't judge it if you haven't heard it !
🙂

True, but, you can mod one yourself for about 30 bux. I rebuilt my SI T-Amp for around that and let me tell you, it sounds fantastic. Specs are far better than the Super-T as well. I suppose though, it takes some knowledge of soldering and not being afraid to mess with surface mount stuff to do this, so...

I think that's where they find their market. I'd rather get out the old soldering iron myself, but I can understand some people's reluctance if they haven't done any work like that before.
Here is my finished 206E in a 208 cabinet

Hello everyone,
Sorry to revive this old thread...
Puffin:
I would love a copy of the cutting plans you mentioned but none of the links here worked for me. Also, as a new member I am not allowed to email other members yet so I decided this was the best place to ask for them.
Thanks in advance.

I did have them stored on photobucket, but removed them after I thought that there was no need for them anymore. I have them somewhere and will scan them in again. Looks as though the photos have been deleted. Here's a couple of pics

Thanks for checking that out for me, as well as posting the pictures. They look really great, I hope I'm able to pull off something that nice! Though, maybe I shouldn't ask you to make a big effort until I'm sure I'm going for this design. I will let you know when I have confirmed.
Any observations on these speakers now that you have lived with them for a while? If you were to do another cabinet for the Fostex 206, what would it be?
The other cabinets I'm thinking of are the BIB, for simplicity sake, and the Sachiko.

I have been using the 206E' s in the 208 cabinet for over 2 years now and I have no desire to ever want another speaker. I have been into hifi for over 40 years, had countless speakers and heard many more. They say that you either love or hate horns. I am in the former camp. I honestly can't see what there is to dislike about them, perhaps they aren't "hifi" enough for some, but they sure do music to my ears. They drive the room, not some pathetic excuse for a speaker, running out of puff just when you want that "live" experience.
If I build another speaker it will be even bigger than these and these weigh 65kg each. If you look closely the speaker in the bottom picture is a Lowther not the Fostex. I got them for a bargain price and just had to try them as they have legendary status. They don't work in that cabinet. The cabinet will need to be about twice the dimensions. However It will have to be good to oust the Fostex's!
