Is it possible for me to take my powered sub that I disconnected from my HT system and somehow get it to work with my PC audio?
It is possible....add a mixer/preamp using opamp..low pass filter may be needed if ur sub lacks one,,Do post full details....incl ur pc o/p's...whether it has sub o/p on board
Are you saying I would need to get an HT receiver to do this? Can't I just find a device that is real small like a router that will allow me to make my audio connections?v1d9uy said:just use a reciever for your computer .. then you can use whatever speakers you want : )
nothing made for a computer has a RCA output for a sub ... to my knowledge. not even the big $ soundblaster audigy now it does have outputs for a computer surround sound setup with sub but not a rca output the only way i would do this is to get a reciever... and use a headphone plug to rca adapter and use that to yer reciever .... thats the way i do it anyways ...
What kind of receiver are we talking here? Just a basic stereo receiver. I was hoping I could do this w/o spending a buttload of $$$$$$. I just upgraded my whimpy HT sub and now its just sitting in my closet.
id hit up garage sales etc... find a older ht reciever... a stereo receiever wont have the sub output ... also try

Well I guess this is a waste then oh well. I really don't want a receiver next to my PC. I'll just get a 3-way PC audio system instead. Something like this. http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage...t&productCategoryId=cat01055&id=1055388012457
You can get RCA out from your computer. M-Audio makes audiophile grade sound cards and audio capturing devices. It has a dongle that plugs into the sound card that then outputs in to thier respective channels.
A 7.1 surround sound card can be had for under $100 street price.

hmm for the $100 ... id rather do a reciever .. just to have the option to use anyspeakers i wanted... but thats just me
you could get a much MUCH cheaper sound card that has 1/8" mini stereo outs for fronts, rears, and sub/center...you could hook up your current mains to the front output, and use a headphone jack --> RCA adaptor to hook up your powered sub...if it is in fact powered you wont need a reciever...and you can install it yourself...veery easily
