My two cents: If you account for logistics, work, wood, space, amping, things get more difficult. I was thinking going that route too, but calculating all details with 16pcs of 15", it didn't look that straightforward and ideal. When accounted for all this, these 18" and 21" units don't look half bad.
Nice to know. The Alpine is more than twice the price where I live, but still the Alpine is very reasonable priced.View attachment 1461915
Tested (measured) yesterday.
Full review, as with the Alpine SWG-1244 (see OP), will be on my YT channel, eventually (I have enough other content for now). In the meantime, I'll spare anyone interested in these drivers the expense and will share that the 17mm Xmax claim is, as somewhat expected, bogus. The distortion limited output of the GAS turned out significantly lower than the SWG-1244's with its true 10mm excursion ((30mm Hvc - 10mm Hg) / 2).
My modelling program seems to like it.
vs Dayton RSS315HFA-8 in box just over 2 cubes. No EQ:
A little Linkwitz Transform later:
Just as deep and extended. 8dB more output. Same volume box.
My login price: €220

GRS 12SW-4HE (12", 12,5mm Xmax according to manufacturer (no explicit Hvc and Hg), 65$) - out of stock everywhere as of 03/25.
AVSForum.com might be the reason why that sub is out of stock.
Folks are using them like the Best Buy $29.99 JBL 12's (CX1200, GX1200, CS1214, etc.) for crazy home theater builds.
