Did an experiment. I kept my new belt in kerosene for 10 to 15 minutes. Belt size increased about 1 inch. Took out the belt let it dry for 6/7 hrs. Belt returned to normal size but with 2/3 mm more length. Record speed also shows normal speed. (better than previously noted). Will check it again.
(As I got my belt cheap I took the risk of dipping it in kerosene, so would advice to take extra precaution and necessary care with this materials. As I think belt can be rendered useless too with such materials.)

Not really.
It was a halfway step because the technology on the hardware side had not yet progressed to where it is today.
It's obvious now, because there are sites that offer downloads of high bitrate, high bitdepth recordings.
But this thread is about turntables and LP... 😀
