Hi-End and Hi-Efficency loudspeakers (horn + onken)

sp-38/300 neo is in my list but it need a large volume to get the max performances near to 300 lt, see simulation

I have download the test about this woofer from Klang+Ton.

DT300 is a good tweeter but it is not good for this project, too low sensibility and too high crossover freq

The sp38 is perfect for open baffle I estimate the DT300 shout be better then 95dB with wave guide.

That is a great driver tinitus.

Im sure it is, but no way I would pay almost 370EUR

The point is that it looks so smooth, but looking closer you will see that it peaks very sharply just above 1khz, and this peak is probably much worse than it shows
Newbies will overlook that completely
Thats not very good at all

OT? maybe a bit, but I think its very much relevant when we are looking at such drivers

But your right that Monacor has a few accidentally gems, and those few really are true bargains...sleepers you might say
But it doesnt mean that all Monacor is good, as most of it is scrap and much too expencive
Their pricing is from before the internet, and clearly outdated
I have seen VERY few changes at Monacor over the last 10years, or so

Should I design a speaker fore a 300B tubeamp...Im really not sure how to, but I dont think I would use such big drivers at all
I believe one of the major things that 300B do well is finesse and delicasy, and I cant really see any big pro drivers achieve that

And the high impedant output has to be considered too

Fore a cheap system I would consider a 2.5way with new Eminence Beta-8A...just mount drivers in series and a tubeamp should be very happy

Hi

do you really want a 15" ?

From Monacor a relative fesh combi called "Menhir" using a 12" and a 1" Celestion, published in the magazin "klang&Ton".

There is also a "clon" using the same bass , but a 400-stereolab, also with the celestion 1430.
This is close to your introduction.....

some links:

some frequency-respondes in this thread:

(user frank Kuhl made this project)
klon:

hope, you could get some input from these projekts.

Do you have measurements from the Beyma / 600 stereolab-combi ?

thanks.

HI Andrea,

I know your website. I like it very much. Very useful to learn "circuits"🙂

I am skeptical about all those your speakers. In short IMO they are too many ( and too different each from the other also) : who is the best ?

Again, this 2 way has very high efficency. OK.
But what is your expectations about sound quality ? From 1 to 10 ?

Imagine you listen your wonderful Shennaiser OTL driven, thus you swap to the speaker. How much big is the difference ?
Are you sure 100 dB efficency is the right way to approximate best way the sound of your Shennaiser? 🙄

Cheers,
Paolo

Actually I don't use headphones and my best amplifier is not the OT but this one:

This 2 way project is not finished so I cannot give a value to this.
Until now the my best projects about loudspeakers are the Monitor, the Monitor 2 and the Martin Logan modified.
The Matin Logan mod. are very different from original and these give the best sound when you ear at low level and few instruments like jazz and classic quartet.
The Martin Logan mod. cannot be driven by a 2a3 single ended but it is necessary a good amp. like these:

All my eperience with fullrange are quite bad.

I was believe you use headphones for "serious monitoring".....
are you or not that have made all those fantastic OTL- headphone amplifiers? 😀

excuse me, links do not work....

Yes of course, but you have to expect something, or not? 😀
what level do you aspect ? top?

Ok. ML are good test.
Not because ML are particulary good sounding ( IMO they are not so), but because they are a commercial brand/model knowed and
not " another DIY" IMO.
I suggest to take a LS3/5A as "reference", all people know how they sound.

Good so.

Do you have tryed the MSW Mangers? If not , considerate to take a listen ...

good continue/experimentations 🙂

I am testing this to see if it is possible get a beautiful and smooth sound, not hard, unsing professional drivers. This mean top performance with 2a3 amp. but I am sure that the distortion of common hi-end loudspeakers or ESL driven by 845 amp. will be better.

Mangers drivers ? I know that these driver have low dynamic less than esl

Wow, very beautiful schematic Andrea! 🙂
Excerpt I do not like 5842 . Does the D3A sound "similar" to 5842? I am very interested in this aspect. Thanks.

yup! 🙂
I am not sure what you mean with "distortion" but in general you can be sure that the sound of a Magico Mini ( just for example) driven by 845 will be more similar to top headphone than 100dB speaker........ 😀:

"I know..." do you have listened Mangers ? What models ?
OR are you referring to common sense read in forums ? Excuse my stupid question, no offense intended.
😕
