Hermes-BBB/Botic cape for BeagleBone Black

Possible battery powerdown problem

Hi
I am just in the process of checking everything works ok on my build, all seems good, remote files mount and can play from cmd or ympd and connect via wifi or wired, I have not been able to listen yet as I'm still waiting for teleporter.

I have fitted a battery as shown but on removing the power from BBB the system appears to just crash, all leds on BBB and Hermes just go off instantly, can someone describe what should happen when power is lost, is there a setting in Botic5 that needs to be changed to initiate controlled shutdown?
Many thanks to all involved in this great project
Steve

Researching the microSD card issue, I checked the solder pads under a binocular scope. I was surprised to find physical contact had been made between one uSD card reader pad and the stock TPA aluminum standoff that was usually in place on the BBB. That would ground the pad. At worst, two reader pins could even be bridged, though I'm sure that didn't occur. So be aware of the standoff type/placement on BBB! :guilty:

Frank

I am now shipping a set of nylon washers with the kits.

If you already have a kit and want/need some washers, drop me a line. I will email all current users about this as well.

Hermes/Cronus stop to work!

Hi Russ,

Yesterday I received a new BBB trying to understand how can solve the issue of some glitches and jumps but when I complete the re-installation of the BBB the Hermes/Cronus doesn't play more.

Please note that the BBB with hermes/Cronus was playing with no problem since the first power up.

The BBB's substitution is really an easy task. Dismounted the 4 standoffs (with 4 plastic washers), resoldered the 4 pins for the battery and reinstalled the new BBB.
No way way to make it play again... I reinstalled the old BBB but doesn't play. All the LEDs are lighting (2 fix at power on and one when complete the boot), the 5V are there but nothing out. I even tested the DAC with a Waveio and changed the 3 U.FL from Cronus to the DAC.
After some hours of troubleshooting I installed back the S03 and both the BBB are playing. So, it is clear that the problem is in the Hermes/Cronus but I don't know where I have to look and without schematic is really hard to troubleshoot the boards

You have any idea or suggestion?

Thanks and Regards,
Enrico

Russ, today I troubleshoot the hermes/cronus.
The clock selector is properly done also because the boards was working at the first time.
I rechecked and resoldered all the connectors and checked the voltages as per connectors points you post in the first thread of cronus.
After that still doesn't play and, thinking on a problem in the connectors, I "squeeze" gently the two boards and it start to play but as soon I touch the two boards again the sound play/stop.
So, I dismount everything again and I recheck carefully all the solder points.
The only points that looks wick are the 2 clocks in the rea boards.I resoldered the 2 clocks and now the boards are fine even if I squeeze or touch them.

Maybe this can help somebody else with the same proble.

Thanks and Regards,
Enrico
