When looking at the DRD 45 monoblocks mentioned some years ago I have noticed that the input/driver tube is different to the manual.
The manual states it is a 6N1P (6 volt) but mine is a General Electric 0528 (12volt) . I can't believe this 12volt valve would work in a 6volt socket, so its not a simple equivalent. Was this voltage conversion something DRD 45 builders would do for a good reason.

That's brilliant 🙂0528 is a 6414 variant and has a center tapped heater. Can run on 6 or 12V.
So can I just confirm its a straight plug and play replacement for the 6N1P, and is it likely to have been substituted because it sounds better.
The 6414 has characteristic specifications that are close to some of the characteristics of a 6N1P.
It may, or may not, be necessary to adjust the B+ voltage, plate load resistor, and cathode resistor of the 6414, in order to get optimal performance in that amplifier circuit.
I have no data on a 0528 tube.
How close are the characteristic specifications of a 0528 tube to a 6N1P, you check and decide.
"All tubes are created equal, but some tubes are more equal than others" Modified quote from George Orwells novel, "Animal Farm".
Sometimes, Plug and Play does not work well; In that case it becomes Plug and Pray.
"Sounds better" is according to a specific amplifier circuit, specific loudspeakers, specific music genre and recordings, and the ears of the listener (the ears of the beholder).
Just my opinions.

Except for the heater. To use it with 6V it has been rewired. Pin 4 and 5 are now joined together for one leg of the 6V and 9 is the other. You can't just plug in the 6n1p now if you would like to. You'd have to disconnect one leg of 6v from pin 9. And seperate 4 and 5. The legs of 6V would then go to 4 and 5.So can I just confirm its a straight plug and play replacement for the 6N1P, and is it likely to have been substituted because it sounds better.
