Help with rockford 1501bd

That's the one that always seems to fail. From the description of the problem, I think it's almost certainly shorted. Have you checked with PacParts to see if replacement was available?

or rewind it. ive done that before. not fun though.

basically you carefully "unwind it" to keep track of placement, how many turns, how many windings, wiretype, length, etc...

and rewind it to the same specs you unwound it.
