You don't have to buy expensive bits. All inductors are air core but even those can be bought cheaply, here from Brit members if you post a wanted list. Later in the design advancement Kevin announced that the best most musical caps are electrolytic NP's with mylar film bypasses . Of course both need to be "special" for full effect and nothing is more special than custom print on of the shelf part. Hovland capacitors lost all their charm and desirability after online guru deemed them unmusical and suddenly everybody woke up to the truth 🙂 You know ,even with all the accolades and tones of positive reviews it's just a speaker and it sounds like a speaker and not an Angels choir from heavens. You may not like it. There are a lot of people who don't but say nothing because the need to sell and recoup some of them money while "changing direction"
love the battle hardened cynicism. I heard the speakers before and liked them but I'm also an ignoramus and suspect I'll benefit from keeping that way, up to a point. Sourcing parts here from Brit members sounds like a great idea, i'll try and find the right bit of the forum for that and put up the parts list. There are a lot of people who don't but say nothing because the need to sell and recoup some of them money
Thanks limono
With you guys on the team I'm taking the leap that the collective 'we' know what we're doing, so I'll crack on with the passive crossover as I can at least see the bits and I wasn't bad at lego. And maybe later visit the dsp route if it starts seeming sensible.as long as the person designing the crossover knows what they are doing
